Im Looking for a fun Nation..who to be?

Ill be playing The Long Road MOD because I like having tons of regions(199 regions in total)..anyways Which Nation should I be? I know this isnt Long Road forums but no 1 responds there but here im asking generaly even out of the reg nations in game..Im looking for a fun game, with a decent starting position, and most importantly..a European....
Im looking for a good balance of early era troops and late era troops..wonder if theres a nation that is good at everything(excluding HRE cuz their armour gets pwnt in Gunpowder age..and they cant do anything about it)

I herd Venice is good..though im a bit worried about their starting position as They have not much room to expand without going to war..I play on Very Hard/Very Hard so It would be hard to try and take Milan on who no doubt will ally with France like almost always for me..and ur surrounded..but people say they are good so they must have some strong units..ill check them out I guess but id still like feedback

And Venice has a great starting location because 1. Crete! Its real easy to get from Crete to the Holy Lands! 2. Venice gets a lot of trade income which equals a s***load of $$$! 3. There is only one way to attack Venice, and that is on the bridge! So you will only have to put up with one stack at a time instead of 8!

And they get LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of gunpowder troops! Hurray for musketeers! And their spear militia IS Sergeant Spearmen with FREE upkeep in cities! And plus they can recruit CALVARY in CITIES. And I don't mean Merchant Calvary Militia, I mean Broken Lances! Heavy Calvary! REAL calvary!

:O Sounds really good, think I'm going to go venice, just reinstalled the game and lost my saves and started with HRE again, but it's dull now that I've already done everything.. Never been venice, when you say lots of income, do you mean like england income or HRE income? (hre = 10-15k a turn england = 5-10k)

I have Venice, around turn 75, and the city itself is pumping out 5k a turn (and it's a huge city)

and the map...is way bigger then the regular map..its so freaking huge its crazy
1 turn= 6 monthes and u move decently in it movement point wise..its fun as heck when u go on crusades..makes u feel like its the real thing cuz the map is so big and so many regions..takes a while to get there and when ur there u feel like ur in the Kingdom of Heaven movie!

Yes, my mistake. I read it wrong .
So its got 199 regions, it must be huge. never had a chance to play that mod, maybe I'll do it now since it that big.

Look up Miaks extendad map mod. It is unfinished but the map is huge! It is a dead mod but you can download the map and its still playable.

Yea, I have yet to play with Venice regardless of the mod (in regards to the other people in this thread), but looking at the roster alone, it is quite good.

The unit roster is quite powerful; Venetian Hvy Inf., Venetian Archers, Broken Lances (well, most of the Italian powers have them), all the rest of the bonuses as mentioned by the people above , and of course that awesome Carroccio Standard.

My last campaign i did something realy idiotic I played as scotland and abandoned the british islands the first turn. I then sailed all the way to caffa and from there a trade empire!

Venice is a good choice -- just be certain you end your wars before starting the next. As a central mediterean naval power you can be in on a lot.

Crusades -- you should be first and very quickly successful so you can get experience for all generals and nearly all troops.

You get to tangle with the other Italians at their own choosing if you want excitement.

Adjacant to Orthodox and Islamic AI means no need for excommmunication, if that is your game.

Easy to make the Mediterean your own lake.

If in the Middle East before turn 60, you can even get in on the Mongol and Timurid action.

I have other preferences (Cavalry) so if this is also a concern, maybe another power. Only deficit with Venice though. Go for it!
