    Default ctd, log query.

Do these last few lines from my error log ring any bells with anyone?

    I have been altering traits/ancillaries/custom_script

However, I am begining to think something elsewhere may simply have been corrupted/ accidentally altered.

I have spent 4 days on this yet I still get a ctd just after faction selection.

The line "<factionleader_normalfactions> fired" is the first and last instance in the log, when normally there would be 1 per faction if this info is relevant.

    Code:
    18:42:18.781 [system.io] [info] exists: missing mods/Stainless_Steel_6/data/ui/southern_european/portraits/portraits/young/generals/000.tga
    18:42:18.781 [system.io] [info] exists: found data/ui/southern_european/portraits/portraits/young/generals/000.tga (from: packs/data_3.pack)
    18:42:18.781 [system.io] [info] exists: missing mods/Stainless_Steel_6/data/ui/southern_european/portraits/portraits/young/generals/000.tga
    18:42:18.781 [system.io] [info] exists: found data/ui/southern_european/portraits/portraits/young/generals/000.tga (from: packs/data_3.pack)
    18:42:18.781 [game.script.trigger] [trace] Trigger <factionleader_normalfactions> fired
    18:42:18.781 [bink] [debug] [data/fmv/menu/DUMP0000.BIK]Pause on
18:42:19.734 [system.rpt] [error] Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.
Here is a similar section from a healthy log so you can see where it is stopping and what would have come next.

    Code:
    6:58:02.437 [system.io] [info] exists: missing data/ui/southern_european/portraits/portraits/young/catholic_generals/000.tga

So.. have you tried eliminating the DUMP000.bik ? The .bik files are the movie files for the game, so if it happens when you click a faction, and lists a .bik file, it is probably saying there's something wrong/missing with the faction intro videos. Try adding:

    movies = false

to your .cfg file you're running the mod folder with, and see if you can get to the map if it skips the faction intro videos.

    Cheers,

Thanks. You would think that may be related looking at the log, but no.

In the end I deleted various chunks of trait triggers, until I narrowed it down to a handful that when enabled still gave the error, when disabled, didn't. Trouble is they look perfect.

The video file they refer to is the one that shows in the background of the main menu - the blue with marching soldiers. Maybe there is a problem with that file?

Well it appears that the log is not listing anything related to the ctd.

The error is prevented by changing a trait trigger's WhenToTest from BecomesFactionLeader to CharacterTurnEnd. This should make no difference.

I have a feeling that I have reached some kind of hardcoded trait limit, as now that I am not getting the ctd I can see that characters are getting a trait AND its antitrait at the same time. Not a trait related to the trigger in question.

I wonder what I could have done.. The code looks faultless.

In the modding forums there is a list of known hardcoded limits. Try the search feature and search for it. You may have one. I know someone found the maximum ancillaries.

Well the code turned out to be ok in theory, but I seem to have found a new (to me) limit on a condition. You cannot use "BecomesFactionLeader" and "CharacterIsLocal" together!
