    Default Adding the Spanish Dragoon??

    Fresh Noob here.
    Anyway.

    I'm trying to add a new unit, spanish dragoon, to SS 6.1, and it's been unsuccessful so far. I know that I have to edit

    1) export_desc_unit
    2) export_desc_building
    3) battle_models.modeldb
    4) copy the sprites and tga files

    Here's what I have done so far.

    1. I've copied the edu source for the spanish dragoons from the Americas campaign directory and pasted it to the stainless steel edu file. I don't see any potential problems here.

    2. I've also edited the edb file, as in accordance to the file in the americas campaign directory.

    3. I believe this is where the error is made...i copied the spanish dragoon part in the battle_models.modeldb and pasted it...i've also transferred files(sprites, mesh, textures and etc) that seemed relevent...

    Hm...this should be enough to make it working again..right? or is there some other file that i should've edited?

    Normally I'd sort the problem out myself, or try to get some help from fellas in korean game communities...but after couple of hours it was pretty stressful
    Ideas anyone?


    ps) did anyone see olympics, specifically, swimming? phelps was amazing....it's inhuman!

    The problem is that SS is already at the 500 EDU unit limit. To add another you have to delete another unit from the EDU.

    Another problem is that if you have added an entry to the modeldb, you also have to update the serialization number at the top of the file (which is the count of model entries the file contains). Add the number of model entries you copied in to this number.

    A one other problem is the fact that the unit is already in the game is it not?

    The game will crash if you replace/remove a unit and then try to load a savegame with instances of that unit in play. For example, if you replace Mongol Horse Archers with Dragoons and the Mongols have already entered play in your campaign savegame then the game will CTD.

    Some units that can possibly be removed include Mongol Dismounted Archers and Dismounted Heavy Archers, which are basically duplicates of Mongol Foot Archers and Mongol Infantry. They don't appear in any campaign scripts, rebel spawns or on the campaign map in any form. They do appear in the recruitment pool of Mongol buildings, so you'll have to remove them there.

    Phew. I did what Caesar said, with some information gathered from the friendly search button, and the game's working fine. Thanks guys!

    Dopp / thanks for that advice, that just solved one of my piled problems
    Fenix / Actually the Stainless Steel doesn't have that unit...can't understand, spanish dragoon is one of the coolest units in total war. hm. maybe because of game balance issues?

    Aren't Dragoons a product of 17th century? Why would they be in a medieval game?

    There are already two mounted musket units in SS6.1: Camel Gunners and Cossack Gunners. This just shares the power around. There are supposed to be mounted arquebusiers as early as 1500.

    personly I would rather remove all gunpowder units and replace them with more medieval units.

    The dragoon is from the amaricas campaign so well I guess they would fit well for a late unit.
