    A Note before Posting:

This thread is not who's right or who's wrong, that belongs in the Ossetian-Georgian conflict threads. This thread is going to address what can be done (by all sides) to send Aid and help to Georgia. This thread will make no mention of the war, only devastation caused by the war and when we post info on the devastation we ignore which sides did what.

With that in mind let's continue.

Currently several NGO's are going to be active in Georgia in the coming months, Russia has promised aid to Georgia, America is sending in Humanitarian assistance.

This leaves us a question, what can we the average people do to provide help to people hurt by the conflict?

We could be sending money to the red cross because I believe they are there. And I believe over time there be fund raisers so you can send money there. But there isn't much you can do.

I like the red cross, but what will we do about stores and businesses that will be destroyed? Is there any good development work being done in Georgia?

Since my opinion is that the US actually encouraged Georgia to move into Ossetia, vs discouraging them, the necessary rebuilding aid will come from the
American taxpayer. *IF* Russia actually does leave. Which, if I was them, I would not do.

I don't believe in helping out at all, at least on the international level. Massive donations of goods do nothing more than to destroy the country's native economy even more.

What about Microloan programs? Those generally have positive effects without it being totally "free".

As an objectivist, John Galt must certainly agree with you and wish for Georgia to be cleansed of all weak social elements by impoverishment and famine as a reward for their imprudent decision-making in choosing to challenge the might of the dark empire, Russia.

This is not about philosophical or political beliefs, go search, "Objectivist" and resurrect one of those threads if you wish to discuss Objectivism.

It it about "what can be done for Georgia", which invites discussion of whether anything SHOULD be done at all, which calls for a politico-philosophical justification for that decision.

Incorrect. This is about what can be done. Admittedly nothing can be done, but then says so and leave. This isn't SHOULD but CAN.

    Ha ha ha, no.

I've nothing against private charities. I just don't want my government spending billions and billions of dollars of taxpayer money when we ourselves have enough problems already.
