Here is my defense for Metz.

Alright, here is exactly my point, Yes, Frankfurt may be your capital, but Metz is clearly on our side, the distance you have to take to attack Rhemis is almost half that I would have to attack Frankfurt, You could easily attack Rhemis from Metz in 1 turn, while for me it would most definitely take 2.
Just to note that would also take you 2 turns from Metz to attack my capital Paris, which is just a bit west of Rhemis.

Furthermore you already have Straufen fort in the area that it could defend off an invasion if one should occur, which it certainly wouldn't If you agree to my terms, I can assure you of that.

However giving you Metz means I do not have any defence for Dijion, Rhemis and even Paris,
you would clearly have an unchallenged opportunity for all these cities if I were to let you have Metz,
I don't have a fort in that area, and It would totally give you first strike capability, I just can't risk allowing it
