Default Kingdom of Jerusalem Unit Roster

    Hi All,

I'm new to BC and trying out KoJ right now. I've got some questions about the unit roster, and a search of the forums didn't help (the official and/or indexed threads are a bit unorganized, I think, without clear references about which version of BC they are, and some started a long time ago).

Anyway, both the BC-FAUST and Hongas Database show many "unrecruitable" units, and KoJ starts out with some of them (Militia of the Kingdom). I suspect that most of the unrecruitable units ("Latin xyz") will enter the game only as part of a requested Crusade. Am I right? But what about the Militia? And which units receive free upkeep, only the militias or all units that you can build in cities?

Thanks for helping a novice BC player.

there are no bc units with free_upkeep.
As for recruiting, i never played/developped KoJ this much. Usually got annoyed by their accent.

    no free upkeep? oh dear.

I usually play with my own soundtrack in the background, so I don't care about accents (the gazillionth "yes, sir" gets on my nerves no matter what language/accent).

Still, no one ever used the non-recruitable Latin units? There are some ratings in the database, so some of you must have...

They speak French to you a lot though...Cuz I hear FOR THE GLORY OF FRANCE WE WILL ATTACK(in a french accent)
I know in real life France was a main contender in the holy lands..

It was the Crusade of the Franks that established KoJ IIRC. The Venetians on the other hand were one of the main suppliers, as they had their lands closer to holy land than France and good porting city (Venice, and i think they also settled in Krete island).

Yea the french accent is horrible in this game.

« There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it.

A politician who portrays himself as 'caring' and 'sensitive' because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he's willing to try to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't?

And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he'll do good with his own money - if a gun is held to his head.» - P. J. O'Rourke

Militia of the kingdom is recruitable, along with many other units starting with Latin....
However some Latin xyz units are indeed unrecruitable, such as longbowmen. They only appear as crusading armies generated by scripts, and that usually doesn't happen when you play as the KoJ (well, if you really sucked then the pope might send a crusade to help you out).
