[RTW ALX AAR] To the Ends of the Earth

This is the first AAR to be written for vanilla Alexander add-on for RTW.
And it is coming today...............

Chapter One- A Good Start

I am Alexander, son of Philip II. When my father died he left the kingdom of Macedonia to me, but his dying words were this: Seek out a kingdom, son, because Macedonia is too small for you. It kind of is. Just two provinces.
Parmenion is in Asia Minor to gain a foothold for me in the invasion of Persia.
I sent him back to take Bzzantium, while I myself go and confront Memnon.


It was not long before he attacked me.


Seeing his great amount of chariots and archers, I deployed in a highly defensive formation that covered all my flanks. The navy was moored behind our lines just in case we needed extra troops.


All of my cavalry was set in an ambush for his archers.


However, they hesitated the charge when they saw all of his cavalry and chariots.



At a signal the Persian horde suddenly charged, and my cavalry saw their opening. They galloped towards the Persian rear as fast as they could.


However, the cavalry was too late. The whole Persian army routed after only minutes upon contact with my phalanx, and there were only the survivors and a few scattered units of cavalry left on the field! Memnon himself fled to Halicarnassus.


I myself killed many of the archers with my own xyston lance!

They tried to run, but nothing outruns a swift Macedonian horse!

It was a clear victory, and the few survivors made it to Halicarnassus, which I besieged soon afterward.

A good start When I first read the title, I was like "Huh?" cos my recent ToTW contest entry has the exact same title, excluding the "A Vanilla ALX AAR" part

Chapter Two- Halicarnassus

After we had defeated Memnon he ignominiously fled to Halicarnassus.
We built three siege towers and my loyal hyspaspists manned them, followed by mercenary Ionian hoplites.

Two of the towers reached heavily defended sections of the wall, while the third tower on the west reached a very lightly garrisoned tower, with survivors from the battle at Granicus. Persian Sparabara and a few mercenary Greeks.
The fighting soon escalated as all of the Persian infantry was sent to the walls to try and push us off in one fell blow.

However, the hyspaspists were well trained and did not take too many casualties. The mercenary hoplites lost half their number.

Hyspaspist 1: Look! The Persian General!

The enemy infantry tried to break and run, but because of the RTW engine they had to stay and fight to the death on the walls.

Soon their Immortal infantry marched to the walls and began to fire their arrows on my hoplites.
My hypaspists knew what they were doing, and attacked them.


Hypaspist 1: Immortals!
Hypaspist 2: We put that name to the test!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alexander: They are immortals only in name!
Phalangite: Duh, we killed half of them in the last battle.
: I know, but this is more dramatic.
: I killed sixteen myself.
: Stop being cocky or I am sending you to Darius alone.

The Hyrcanian mercenaries were the next to fall prey to my hypaspists.

With the walls secure I ordered two units of Phalangites to march to the plaza and kill the Persian cavalry.

They had an easy time of it, and Memnon of Rhodes was the first to fall.

Then the Persian satrap died, falling off his chariot clumsily.

The city was ours!
However, just as I was easing down into my bubble bath, a spy ran in.

He handed me a report saying that two Persian armies were dangerously close to Halicarnassus! We had to act quickly. But what would we do?
