    Default My cities fail.

    Hello, I have 3 questions.

First, when I've captured a city, almost everytime they have - income, even with the tax rate on max. I want to know if there's a building or something else that can make the income higher? I have about 3 cities with - income.

Secondly, 3 of my cities are infected by the Plague, I'm wondering if there's a way to get rid of it? I've already lost my king, a prince and 2 generals cause of the plague, and thousands of soldiers/citizens. I've had to leave the cities be, losing over 5000 income, and regions.

Third, I have recently started to invade the mongols, as they captured my cities and most likely infected them with the plague somehow, as they got it just after they invaded. Now I've captured Kiev (capital) and Smolensk (Small city) and killed their Khan, and the Facton Heir. But they're still not, what do you say.. "Exterminated".. So I'm wondering, do they have any additional cities? I've only found Independent Cities owned by "Rus Rebels", does rus rebels equal mongols? I'm confused and don't know where to go next.

    1. Ports and markets are a first priority to build straight away, unless the city needs upgrading first, then do that. Then just specialise in money generating buildings.

    2. The plauge, Im not sure about getting rid of it, ive not noticed any change to it when building anything, so I think you might have to grin and bear it. However the plauge is a very useful tool. If you have a city that is unhappy due to unrest and or especially overcrowding, send a spy into an infiected city, then move him after he is infected into the troubled settlement, that can help with overcrowding. Also very good to use against your enemy too.

    3. If they are not destroyed then there is at least 1 family member still alive, so yu are going to have to track them down and kill them.

Thank you for the quick reply.

    1. I see, I shall make ports, is repairing the city also an important thing to do? Also, does "Financial Policy" increase the incomes?

    2. Alright, I see. I'll just have to bare with it.

    3. Alright, problem with the mongols tho, is that they have such strong leaders, they can slaughter one of my full stacked armies with a 1000 less troops with no problem at all.

Also got another question, is dread useful? I have a General with about 5/10 command, and lots of dread, but I haven't used him as I'm not sure if Dread is a positive or negative ability.

Also, is spreading your faith an important thing to do?

Spreading faith will keep your factions from rebeling, its very important if your conquring territories of other faiths.

Do not move anyone in or out of a plauge city unless your planning to spread the plauge to one of your enemies.

"when I've captured a city, almost everytime they have - income" does this mean they have negative income??? I didnt know settlements could have a negative income??

I guess your negative income is because of the plague... it will go back to normal after that. About raising money, on the city details you can see how new buildings will affect the income. Put the mouse on those little icons and you see the difference when you select something to build. Some cities are better with with trade, others with farming or mining. Dread is the opposite of chivalry. If you have chivalry, you give morale to your troops, if you have dread you scare the enemy.

When the plague hits a city the income from trade in that city becomes zero. If the city is very far from your capital it will have a lot of corruption. A poor tax general will further reduce the income.

Usually, there is nothing odd about some cities getting negative income because of the way that M2TW is distributing the costs like upkeep etc. The larger a city is, the larger the part of the costs the city has to pay, which can lead to negative income if the city doesn't have enough of its own. As said by the others already, the plague reduces the trade income of infected cities and those connected to them. And as also said already by the others, you can't do anything else then getting trade rights with neighbouring factions and constructing trade buildings in the settlement in question.
As long as you're overall gaining money through the rest of your cities and castles, there is no problem about the negative income though.

I've found ports, roads, and mines to be the most lucrative. Markets and farms also generate income, but not as much as the above. When selecting a building, you can see exactly what effect it has on the city's income by hitting the city detail button. If I remember correctly, this button is the third or fourth on the bottom left hand corner of the city window.

Once you have the city detail open, you can see how your public order adds up, what's increasing it and what's decreasing it. Same with income in the mid-section, and finally the religion on the bottom. You can go into even more detail with income to see what exactly the settlement is trading, but I can't imagine doing anything with that information. If someone knows why this would be useful, please let me know!

Nope, just don't spread it. It will naturally spread to other nearby settlements, but you can spread it further by moving infected troops and/or generals/agents to other settlements. Generals/agents carry the rat icon to indicate they're infected with you look at their unit portrait. Troops, however, give no indication. Basically sit it out. You'll take a big hit to your population, as high as -8% per turn.

You can use the plague to your advantage! Your garrisons will definitely take losses, but also gives you the opportunity to mix veteran units with the raw recruits. Easy experience.

Also, use plagued settlements to farm contagious spies. Spies carry the plague and love sharing it with the city they're in. An easy way of infecting your enemy.

Third, I have recently started to invade the mongols, as they captured my cities and most likely infected them with the plague somehow, as they got it just after they invaded. Sometimes the Mongols will settle down. In my English campaign, their scouting party (the smaller of the invasions) settled down in Alexandria and never made contact with me. In my Turk campaign, they remained a horde army all the way up until I brought about their annihilation. They do have a second larger wave, so don't be fooled when the scouting party is dispatched.
