Orderly retreat getting hosed!

Hi all, playing Kievan Rus at the moment and the Lituhuanians have a big stack of mostly foot soldiers coming in, so I sent my horse ahead to slow them down and pick at them while the city calls to arms some militia.

I go to the battle, basically have H/A shoot and run, but whereas I have say 500 left when I exit the battle, the end of the fight report shows i have only 420. Where are those other 80 going, and shouldn't the game recognize its common sense for a HA in the steppes to shoot and leave?

its because you are exiting the battle. If you exit the battle you will gain an automatic loss and some automatic casualties. This is too prevent people from avoiding casualties by exiting a battle.

You have to withdraw all your units in order to lose a battle with the casualties you really sustained

ah, so only if I hit the white flag and let it play out, then it will take no BS loses? I thought that was what I did but I may be confusing it with hitting exit, thanks!
