Ok, I've had bombards and great bombards for quite a while now, but no cannons or handgunners. I'm guessing that this is because there is a second gunpowder event which modernizes the gunpowder units?
Or are they just missing due to some mistake? Not that I mind, normally, I rather dislike the gunpowder units, but when playing Turkey this does prove to be a bit of a thorn, because Janissary Musketeers are pretty much your best field units in the whole damn game.
I absolutely love them, but they're a bit overpowered. I can field an army of Janissary Musketeers and some artillery, and that's it, and just line them up two rows deep across an entire battle front, with a little gap for the artillery to fire through, and an enemy army has absolutely no chance of approaching me.
The withering fire of eighteen companies of Janissary Musketeers and two Great Bombards or Cannons destroys the enemy's morale before they can even reach my line, even cavalry. Entire armies route after trying to charge that line, while my artillery simply targets their artillery.
So you can understand why, playing as turkey, pinned between Kwarezim, Rome, Egypt, and Kiev, I'm rather anxious to get my breakout unit and actually start pwning some face.
