I recently redid my mod from top to bottom due to an untraced name related crash...during my remodeling I just happened to change the max kids from 4 to 12. This sort of thing has been mentioned before, however I noticed a few things that might be interesting to those who like to have 1 king 1 heir setups. In this case I have one king in my faction he's married to the princess. One heir that marries a suitable lady. The four will make up my family tree if my kids max is set to 12...This means that if my king is killed then my heir takes his place and if he dies then my game is over. It makes for an exciting game if you have hero kings and heirs in your mod. For this scenario you need to adjust max age so that your kings don't die after the first turn like Montezuma does in vanilla. Also with the 12 max change you don't get asked to adopt and you don't produce offspring so you need to be able to recruit general units if you want ranking units that can build forts and manage cities...
I did this for 30 turns without any problems and was able to switch it back to 4 max and had a kid at turn 31 after continuing my saved game.
With this in mind you can change it on and off as you please. This all might be trivial to those that are unacquainted with these kinds of alterations but it might be good to know for those that are.
