Default Is Inbreeding Ethically or Morally acceptable?

I saw on the news that a man married a woman that was previously married. The woman had a daughter from the previous marriage. The man's dad is a widower and dates his son's step-daughter. The man's dad and step-daughter get married and have two sons. Now:

    1.Is this ethical or moral?
2.Is inbreeding in a whole ethical or moral?
3.What would the relatives call eachother? (My step-daughters my step-mom, my half-brother is my step-grandson)

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Well if it's a step daughter then I guess they are not blood relatives and so, from a purely biological standpoint they are not doing anything wrong (feel free to correct me if I've missed something here ).

From a moral point of view I would say it would most likely be viewed as wrong but it's open to debate as far as I'm concerned. If they are not blood relatives the children won't be inbred will they?

In the case of actual inbreeding I don't really think it's right - I'm sure someone on here with some qualifications in biology will be able to explain it better than I, but basically the children are going to end up looking like someone from Manchester.

Yep you're right Rich. That's not technically inbreeding.

...Now if both couples had children and they got married and had kids together, then you've got a whole load of cone-headed, hair-lipped, webbed-footed mess to deal with.

Um, the situation the OP has described is not actually inbreeding.

For the sake of the offspring, I am against inbreeding. Although, should they get consent, people can have sex with and love who they want. Just as long as no third party, like a child, is hurt.

Getting consent has got nothing to do with it here in blighty. If you have sex with a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece then you're on your way to clink.

No. But why should we care it being moral or ethical anyway?

It does no harm to others, therefore it's acceptable.

Since they're step-relatives and not close blood relatives...yes.

2.Is inbreeding in a whole ethical or moral?
Inbreeding or incest? Two very different things. One is predicated on the other, but the other doesn't necessarily imply the former.

3.What would the relatives call eachother?
Whichever relation they prefer to prioritize, I guess.

Aren't those in the former Confederate states more into inbreeding? I remember seeing something on the issue in a documentary about the judicial system in the Southern states called, if memory serves me right, "My Cousin Vinny".
Bill: We think they're trying to set us up as patsies, Ma. You know how corrupt it is down here. They all know each other.
Stan: The Klan's here. They're inbred. They sleep with their sisters.
    [a deputy glares at him]
    Stan: Some of them do.
Anyway, on topic: what's described in the first post is not inbreeding.

Remember, Colonel, "Ethically acceptable" is not the same as "Morally right". Some things are in a grey area, because they concern only those involved, not society. There is a space between right and wrong.

I was going to vote "Don't Care", but because of The Colonel's post, I changed my mind and voted "Yes".

Would inbreeding be acceptable IF - everyone else was dead and it was just you and a relative left alive?

No, because I'd have to wait 9 more years, or else I would be a pedophile. And even then, you have the whole "screwed up kid" thing to potentially worry about.

So no, that situation for me is completely unacceptable. I demand I get to live with a woman near my age, hopefully not related.

Ok but assume you were in that situation and YOU were old enough and SHE was old enough................?

And everyone else is dead? Absolutely?

Well, in that case, it's kind of a foregone conclusion, isn't it? What other choice do I have?

So inbreeding is not always morally wrong?

    Or perhaps better phrased:

"Inbreeding is morally acceptable only in the event of a doomsday scenario where everyone on the planet is wiped out except for your sister who is of legal age" ?

I wasn't talking about my sister.

egyptian pharaoh’s inbred! the way to do it is to be very spartan and destroy all dud offspring...

a study i read in scientific american showed that in experiments with inbred flies, you get a load of week and/or deformed offspring, but you also get what they called a ‘superfly’. this creature was a born leader like the head of a lions pride! it appears that nature has a way of getting out of tight corners - so to say, when a species is in danger of dying out and inbreeding occurs, a strong leader will be born in order to make them strong again.

so even direct inbreeding can be ok if a culture desires that kind of leader, modern culture however does not.
