    Default why isn't this working?

    I'm trying to make the rebels playable. They are, but their cities are all empty even though in descr_strat file it says that there are buildings in them. Also none of the characters/armies are spawning that are listed. This is what I have:

    I haven't ever ventured to make the rebels playable because I don't think it serves any particular purpose. However, I will point you to another file that governs factions, which is descr_sm_factions.txt. this is the entry it has for the slave faction:

    As you can see, there are a few lines which make the rebels unique from the other factions. The first one:

    religion					heretic
    The rebel religion is listed as heretic. This could potentially be a problem, without looking through all of the export_descr_buildings.txt or any other file that governs religions I wouldn't know, but you could try changing that to catholic and see if that changes anything. The second line, which is the most relevant:

    special_faction_type				slave_faction
    This indicates that this faction is taking on special parameters that are designated in the hard code. the other faction with a special type is the papal states. As this would elude, it means there's certain things you just can't change about the way these two factions work. The last two lines are also somewhat important:

    has_family_tree					no
    These two lines, while they aren't necessarily effecting your buildings problem, are limiting the faction in respect to having an organized "family". If you made that parameter yes, I'm not sure entirely what would happen, because I don't think any of the rebels are made relatives of each other, so you'd have possibly a ton of officers all on the same line without connecting lines, and it might cause the game to crash.

    Just some observations. My suggestion, find another way to do whatever it is you seem to want to do with the rebel faction, besides playing as them directly. This could mean giving every rebel settlement to a faction and playing as that faction. I wouldn't advise changing the seccond or third code boxes, the second especially may be required by the hardcode to be present in one faction entry.

    1. There are only walls in your descr_strat file, no surprise your cities are empty.
    2. You didn't give an example about the spawning.
    3. There must be an error in your descr_strat file that stops the processing of the file before it gets to the faction standing, possibly to do with your 'spawning'.

    Not even the walls are built. All of my settlements start out as villages that are empty.

    The generals that are listed do not appear on the map at all which I thought they would(they were originally sub_faction ppl which I assumed meant they were rebels in a particular region but were for some reason not listed as slave/rebels so I deleted the line sub_faction from the front of their names thinking they would fall under my control)

    EDIT: I noticed I deleted a line that might've been important.

    Idk what I was thinking, but for some reason I deleted the part ai_label and just left slave faction. I have changed it to ai_label islam since that's the religion I want them to be(dont know how the faction will work being catholic and i want to be able to call some sort of holy war).

    when I did this it crashed, but I also edited the sm_factions.txt which i think caused it since i said yes and yes to the two things u warned me not to change

    This is a very clear indication that something went wrong in your descr_strat file. The appearance of the settlement is the same as if you hadn't entered them there at all. (I am too lazy to enter them at the start of a mod development, hence I can be sure).
    To trace what went wrong you will have to have a look into your log file. From there I want you to copy all lines that have [warning] or [error] in their line. Use the search function for that. Post the result here.
    It could be a simple typo for all we know.

    This is a very clear indication that something went wrong in your descr_strat file. The appearance of the settlement is the same as if you hadn't entered them there at all. (I am too lazy to enter them at the start of a mod development, hence I can be sure).
    To trace what went wrong you will have to have a look into your log file. From there I want you to copy all lines that have [warning] or [error] in their line. Use the search function for that. Post the result here.
    It could be a simple typo for all we know.
    I did change the faction creator of all of the settlements to slave(except for the first one i guess), but then changed them back to the originals.

    with knowing next to nothing about modding my hunch is the lack of having a family set up is causing this(yet when i originally had it working i had no family members either)

    EDIT: Nope that's not it. I tried removing the faction leader/heir i set up(since originally i had none..not that they showed up on the map anyway) and still got a crash

    The only thing of note is error in your descr_mount.txt file which might cause a crash when you enter abattle, provided the mount(s) are used.
    Nest step = Zip (compress) your descr_strat.txt) file and attach it to your next post. There must be a solution!

    I Remember having this problem look for doubled settlement lines in the descr_strat that is what caused it in my game.

    ^ i dont think that'd be the problem considering the game/mod was running fine until i made rebels playable

    something that may be causing it is the family members. they used to have a sub_faction thing in front of their names

    Rebels playable needs a lot of changes:
    1. descr_sm_factions = remove special faction line
    2. descr_names and related files = create names for rebel faction
    3. descr_strat = remove sub_faction entry and adjust names as per new descr_names
    You might get away with skipping 1 but not with the rest

    I was able to successfully make Rebels playable with nothing more than putting them in the "playable" section in my descr_strat. You don't need to do all that work in other files.
