Icon13 Game is almost over; not even halfway past Early age?

Are gunpowder and Aztecs and such triggered based on years of the campaign or based on how far along you build up settlements and expansion, Marian reforms style from RTW?

Because in my Britain campaign, it's... 1145 AD, 132 turns from the start of the campaign, and I've pretty much won. I own all of France, all of the UK, all of Spain and Portugal, all of North Africa (including the two settlements past the Sahara desert), most of Germany, and am starting to barge into Northern Italy. I have 42 regions under my control, just three more plus Jerusalem and I win.

And you're saying I'm nowhere near gunpowder and Aztecs?!?!?!?!
I thought this was triggered by how far along you build up buildings (for gunpowder units) and how far along you build up explorers guilds! (for Aztecs)

What the hell am I supposed to do?! I can't even intentionally sit back and isolate myself or I'll waste away money and resources and some other faction could end up dominating the entire world before me.

Gunpowder and Americas events appear much later like in the than where you are you can edit the time the events happen in.
    C:\Program Files\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

There is a file called descr_events in there you can edit when gunpowder is invented.
    ; ------------ CORE GAME EVENT --------------
    event historic gunpowder_discovered
    date 210 220
    movie event/gunpowder_invented.bik

change the date to a lower number and it will come earlier I believe the date 210 and 220 are how many turns in the game it is so just change it to whatever turn you want of course it depends on if your using mods which it appears you are if it's turn 132 in 1145. Though I believe you may need to start a new campaign for it to take effect. The same thing applies to Aztecs event.

If you don't feel like modding it then just sit and wait.

edit: I don't know if it will really work so make a copy of descr_events

edit2: gunpowder buildings are only buildable in large and huge cities but are only buildable after the event

I just figured it out, I think...

The game by default is supposed to have TWO years pass with each turn. Aside from the sheer ridiculousness of TWO YEARS passing for such short events to occur with each turn and such a short amount of area to be traveled, the ing retards didn't even bother to apply this to the ages of the generals---four years passed in game when I started Vanilla, and King William only aged one year.

So... so.. what the hell? What do I do? I'm the sort of person who edits the descr_character and doubles the movement speed to be more realistic, and I went into the descr_strat and made the turn timetable pass the way the game hardcoded-ly intended. And so now because of that, I can't even experience the full game? What am I supposed to do?

This is freaking ridiculous. I hate this game more and more.

Its so your generals don't die off so fast. And they're from Mars.

The turns per year don't effect the Aztec event. It is based on how many turns since the start have been played, not on a year, so it could trigger in a very early year with 12TPY, moderately early with 4TPY, or on time with 2ypt, but either way that is set up, the year is irrelevant, you'd just need to play 210 turns in order to reach the event. IF you expand quickly you may very well not reach this, not all campaigns reach the late era. Anubis1 explained what you need to do to change that. The number next to the "date" would need to be changed to something like 100 110 to fit your pace, and then in 100 turns it would occur. Since this is an event though you'd need to start a new campaign for it to take effect. For it to happen in your current campaign you need to wait another 70 turns or whatever.

Edit: After reading some other threads, there seems to be conflicting accounts on whether the event is dictated by an internal counting of turns played, or by an extrapolation of the current year based on the starting year. Either way your best bet is to significantly lower the numbers mentioned.

    Cheers,
    Augustus

I'm highly obsessive about this... and it makes me sick to my ing core to have to do it... but I'm putting the timescale back to 2.00.

I'll have to settle for Martian generals and family members. Goddamn aliens.

Would that mean that years don't make a difference for it, but just turns?

Why do people care what the year is? Its a Computer Game, not your History Textbook!

Well, why don't you watch the History Channel instead of playing M2?

    And posting on the forum.

Don't say you hate a game for something that insignificant.

It's incredibly difficult to play the game with the knowledge that it would take 30 years to march a Crusading army from England to Jerusalem, while my faction leader is leading that army at the ripe old age of 140 and still a tough old man. Or that the Venetians have conquered all of Europe and the portions of the other continents on the map by the time gunpowder comes in to use.

It's a game what do you expect? You want armies marching half across the map in one turn? The only thing I can recommend is GrnEyedDvl's 12TPY script.
