    Default Civil War?

So I'm playing as France on VH/VH SS 6.1. A quick background synopsis to better explain the situation:

I've conquered most of France, except for the southern provinces bordering the Mediterranean which have been taken by Aragon, who I have a marriage alliance with.

In the north, the Scottish and the Norwegians landed early on at Antwerp, while the English landed at Bruges, and there has been a constant power struggle. I allied with the Scotland and let them take Bruges, but the English returned there. I sent an army and besieged the town only to be threatened with excommunication from the Pope for any aggressive behavior toward Christians for 7 turns.

SO I turned my attention to the east. The Pope declared a Crusade on Frankfurt, and everyone joined in, including myself. I didn't dare attack the HRE earlier, because the leaderboard told me that they were overwhelmingly powerful. Frankfurt was quickly conquered by the Spanish, leaving about 7 ex-crusading armies at war with the HRE roaming around Germany.

Now here is the curious part. I remember in Medieval I that civil wars could happen. I toggled_fow to see what the map look liked, and about half of the HRE provinces are rebel-controlled now. It's complete chaos. There are foreign armies everywhere, mixed with a few lingering HRE stacks and noble-run rebel armies. I can't tell whether or not this happened because a ex-crusading countries conquered province and let it rot into rebellion, or whether the HRE has had a civil war.

I don't recall ever seeing a civil war take place in my faction while I was playing, then again I've played too many campaigns to remember anything. Can civil wars happen? Can a big strong empire like the HRE just suddenly crumble? I have never had trouble with my generals' loyalties. I would relish the challenge that a civil war would bring. So... do civil wars exist, and how can I instigate them?

Any other campaign advice welcome, particularly of a financial kind.
Let them hate, so long as they fear.

Civil war like in MTWI doesn't exist in MTWII SS (thank God tbh). HRE provinces rebelled coz they have problem with loyality + when faction is excommunated it had huge deacrease in public order, so poorly garnizoned towns rebelled.
About economy tips nothing new can be said, build economic buildings (roads, ports, merchant warf,
markets), train merchants and send them to far resources. and try to keep cities:castles 3:1 ratio,
so convert all coastal castles into towns (as France all you need is Angers and Lyon as castlesin the beggining)
Men, bring our people Honour, Glory and the most of all Victory

Theres a trait in SS that a Faction Leader can get called "Offends the Nobility" or something like that. It causes every General to either become more loyal to the Leader (effectivly backing him) or become disloyal (effectively rebelling). After a while, these Generals will either turn into Royalists or Rebels. Rebels will have zero movement points and mass decrease in loyalty.

Iirc, the Holy Roman Emperor starts with this trait. This usually means the HRE gets conquered pretty easily from all sides.

Yeah, it's happened a few times. Once while playing The Teutonic Order I noticed a bunch of my cities that, one turn earlier, had been green in loyalty, were now deep in the red. A number of Generals had picked up the "Rebel!" and "You're Not My King!" attributes, which made them virtually unplayable. I dispatched them to what I call my "time-out" zones, a series of forts that serve as prisons for rebels. I've seen certain generals come back from other bad attributes when "imprisoned" in these forts, but never from the two I already mentioned. They'll keep that until the King is dead, I guess, but I suppose that's the closest representation yet; a series of turncoats emerging over a course of turns: A trickle effect.

Analysis should not be diverted by reflections upon the zeal with which the victors at the end of the Second World War punished the defeated for war crimes. The victors were animated by the ideals of the Atlantic Charter and of the United Nations. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was about to peep over the eastern horizon. But first, they wanted a little hanging.

You don't have that feature of civil wars in M2TW like you had in MTW.
Plus, in RTW:BI there was ERE rebel faction and WRE rebel faction. So when you fight against them, there is the example of the civil war because its usually one of your own generals and governors who has rebelled and the units are exactly like yours.

If the faction limit hadn't been reached then there may have been a case for civil wars, but it would halve the number of factions (to give every faction the chance to experience civil war) and you'd need to make sure every faction only had a maximum of 2 factions - loyalist and rebel (otherwise rebel factions could have rebellions and so on ad infinitum ad absurdum.)

And the HRE starts the game with an emperor that hates the pope and the pope hates him. This is historically accurate thus the HRE always starts off with some sort of Civil War-until the first emperor dies off. It can be quite a challenge.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the "You're Not My King!" and "Rebel!" traits, I got one on a good command\dread stolen Byzantine general. Dublin is very far away from Athens !

couldent civil wars be done with the part your not playing being rebels, i dont see why it couldent be a scripted event for when more than 20% of your settlements rebel in one turn or something, and it would decrease or increase loyalty and order in all generals asettlements, causeng more people to rebel while some become more loyal, it would be a bit of work but i dont see why it couldent be done
wow, stupid kingdoms is taking FOREVER to update M2TW, (im reinstalling at the moment due to hard drive reformat ...)
