Barcelona's a enjoyable city. Keep aware though there's lots of scams around to rip you off. Someone attempted to pick pocket me a number of years ago. I was on an escalator going upwards towards the Sants train station. Someone brushed past me and stopped on the escalator to tie up their shoe (nearing the top of the escalator). While I was trying to not bump into the guy I felt a hand go into my left hand pocket - I caught the arm and picked the guy up by his shirtfront and pushed him against the wall. In retrospect I should have punched the guy out or slammed him into the wall. It was first thing in the morning.

Barcelona sounds like fun man! Take care

It's been cleared up in the last few years. I guess too much thievery is bad for tourism.....

As it's a popular tourist attraction it tend to attract the element of society that feeds off other people.

On a trip in 1995 I made the mistake of falling asleep in a park. It was for the Spanish GP and it had been fairly cold and wet in the UK and warm and sunny in Barcelona.

I was wearing glasses at the time with clip on sunglass frames. I took them off and put them in a bag next to me. I also had my day pack which had my passport, keys, flight tickets and camera. I'd also taken my walking boots off.

I was enjoying a nice doze and saw a shadow go across me. I sat up and saw two guys legging it with my bag. I stood up and shouted 'Oy!' - they stopped and brought my bag back. They kept on gesturing pointing at their eyes and off in another direction.

I presume what happened was that someone stole the sun-glasses and they saw an opportunity. It would have been a little hard to fly back to the UK the next day.

It was my fault - I am usually very careful when I am in different countries (I have traveled the world on my own). But sometimes your guard goes down.

I went to the local police station and reported what happened (mainly for insurance purposes - I got a new pair of glasses out of it). I met some people who had also been ripped off. A girl had two bum bags (fanny packs to the Americans) and was sitting down with one either side. A couple of local guys started to talk to her and pointed to her camera. While that was happening someone took the other bag. I met a New Zealand couple who's hire car had been broken into by someone drilling from under the car.

I'm going to be away from very early tomorrow morning until Wednesday...going to see my mum and dad in Cornwall. My wife and children are already there, which is how I've managed to get more done this week, going to bed at about 3.30am, waking at 7am for work.
