The Pope excommunicated me while i had 98% of my field armies conquering the HRE-FRANCE-and England, at the POPES request, however, next turn it says you have been excommunicated etc etc.
i was like what? i was a fair warrior, i never killed my enemies, i released them, i've never commited attrocities what so ever, and this happens.
and to make it sad, the pope with only 2 papal guards conquered my captial. Genoa

My current England game. I attack Scotland, he threatens to lower my relations with him...i do it anyway, so thats misson failed. The very next turn (after ive taken Edinburgh) he threatens to excom me so i stop my attack. The Scotland attacks me with huge army and the pope still favors scotland (eight cross's), the attacks carry on for several more turns and the pope never excom's them and i always get threatend -.-

well once i got a pope that decided to ambush my scilian army as it was passing by Rome. Let me just saythat its pretty hard to overcome a full stack of swiss and papal guard with silver chevrons.

Papal armies do seem to like hiding in the woods and mountains near Rome don't they.
Recently had a strange run of Popes dying.
Started the sequence with 9 cardinals and totally dominating the college, then every year a Pope would die, one of mine would replace him and then die the same year. Happened 5 times until I only had 4 cardinals and got out-voted. Co-incidence or prog "cheating"?
