    Default Texture for mercenary_unit

    I noticed that armenian Steppe Horse Archers only have that white, colorless look.
    So I figured the modders forgot to add a texture in DMB, and I want to add one.
    If the unit is a mercenary_unit, for which faction do I have to add the texture?
    I dont fully understand this mercenary_unit thing.
    Somehow the unit description pics go in a different folder, but do they ALSO go in the folder for that faction?
    So if a unit has the mercenaty_unit attribute, should the unit description tga only be in the merc or mercs folder?
    How about the textures then?

    I searched, but I don't really know what this is called, so I don't really know what to search for.

    You don't use a faction's name in the texture line, you use "merc" instead. As long as a unit has the merc_unit attribute, it will use the "merc" skin under any owner. And the UI cards go into the UI/unit_info(or units)/merc/ folder.

    Sooo, a unit with the mercenary_unit attribute does not need its info pic in any other
    factions folder than the merc one, and there should be no other texture line in DMB than merc?

    Correct.

    And you can check this unit out if you comment out no_custom (like: ; no_custom) in the custom battle mode with the factions that have them in ownership as you did.

    The used horse needs as well the merc texture line, while this gives me issues in the Chivalry mod, when i have mountained mercenary_unit units coded, but this is special for Chivalry as for a certain texture for all horse textures in this mod.

    So if a unit is a mercenary_unit, I can just add it as a recruitement for any faction in EDB?

    Steppe Horse Archers had the colorless, white look in a battle (EDU entry in first post).
    Yet, the soldier seems to have a texture for merc.
    So what is wrong?

    Does the horse have the merc texture?

    I suggest to make him an extra dmb entry like that, to check the unit out, if it has a relation to the other faction texture lines ...

    So what is the unit behind him with a texture? Same?
    If not, just put this working texture to the merc unit, as it seems the model applies to the texture, as a first test, if it is a texture issue or not.

    That is another unit with the same name.
    I don't know why there are two.
    I guess one is the mercenary version.

    They do use the same 'soldier' and 'mount'.

    Try taking the texture that the other unit uses and replacing with it the texture of the "white" unit (either the .tga file itself or the texture line code in DMB) and see if the new skins works. if it works, then it's the old skin that is at fault, otherwise it is the unit's coding.

    The texture is named RGyG_unit_armenian_bow_cav.tga.dds, your DMB entry says RGyG_unit_steppe_horse_cav.tga

    Oh, I uploaded the wrong file.
    Here is the right one.
    Just in case anyone would want to check if there is something wrong with it.
    But it seems that the texture works fine with the one unit and not with the other.

    There's nothing wrong with the texture. Though you only have one (RGyG_unit_steppe_horse_cav.tga) coded in any way..

    Swap.

    See if that works, can't think why it would, but it might..
