    Default Trimming the EDB/EDU

I have been looking around lately for faction-adding/removing related problems, and seem to come across quite a few regarding how the game references the EDB and the EDU for parallel faction information. For my mod I don't intend to keep a single Vanilla faction, so what I was wondering, is if there is a way to trim the EDU so it only has one Peasant unit that is recruitable for all existing factions, and trim the EDB so it only has one building(or is the simplest and most global trimming possible, since problems might occur with the "Walls" buildings not being there).

After perusing alpaca's "Stripped Down Mod Folder", it looks like it might meet these expectations(and more). If this is the case, then it might be even easier than I originally thought.

The other question I had after skimming through the tutorial here on adding factions from scratch:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=79274

Is are there any additional files besides those 14 needed? After looking through battle_models.modeldb, I am seeing references to all the Vanilla factions in the stripped down folder, but I don't see any mention of editing this file in the tutorial(I think I know what to do with it, so that's not really the issue). And in that file it looks like different textures are used for each faction, so I guess I'd have to make all factions use one texture for the most base setup. So again, besides the 14 listed in that tutorial, are there any other files that will need changing to make a truly blankified(lol) version, and with the adding of a new faction.

    Cheers,
    Augustus

You do not need to change the modeldb file. This is most likely the only file that is one of the few files linked one way - it only GIVES information. Hence if the information is not required nothing happens (not even a CTD). So you could simply leave one of the original peasants in EDU and EDB as the only unit related info and would not need to edit the modeldb.
The modeldb file is only needed on the battlemap, not on the campaign map.

Alright, I'll probably eventually clean it up anyways and just remove all the lines in there at current, but it's good to know it won't cause campaign map issues either way and doesn't effect other files.

That is technically true, but he should clean it up at some point just to save a bit of resources.

I agree with the cleanup, but it is just plain messy and can easily to CTD if you make a mistake. Alpaca's(?) tool helps quite a lot there.
Above is the reason why I usually reserve this (clean up) for one of the last fun activities in my mods.

What do you mean by "save a bit of resource"? The space\size doesn't really matter. For me it is just a matter of "German order and Precision" to clean it up.

Its loaded into memory at game start, this game is enough of a memory pig as it is. No need to waste memory with something that isnt going to be used.

Well, that is a good enough reason for me. Didn't know it got loaded into memory.
