At the last I understood rebel faction. We thought that rebel faction is totally bugged and its impossible to play with. But in REBEL faction exists pure perfection of this game.I couldnt believe what I found out and after this article it will be very easy to make some Rebel mod.Three most important files are descr_regions,descr_strat and export_descr unit.First we must enable playing with rebels in descr_strat and to give them description in text\campaign description. After that ,we must enable certain units to recruit- (whatever we like) in export_descr unit.We can enable to recruit any unit of any faction we like.Dont touch export_descr building! Now we should create family tree-its not too hard.I believe that some of you knew everything I said until now.But when you start campaign with rebels they mostly make low quality units or no units and most of the units belong to the Greek Cities. Why?Its because of the descr_strat and part which begins with -
faction slave, balanced smith
Below these lines are the starting towns and armies of the rebel faction.Important words for us are faction_creator and sub_faction.Its necessary that after them goes the same faction. If we look closely MAJORITY of the sub_faction are the greek_cities-this is why we can mostly recruit militia hoplites ,militia cavalry and similar units. We can change sub_faction and instead greek_cities we can put any faction we like eg.spain but after doing that we must change units which resides there so instead Greek units we must put some Spanish units and to give Spanish name to general who commands with those units. Also we must find where these units are-which town and to change faction_creator to spain. This is how we enable recruiting different units of different factions in your starting rebel provinces.
Now we must to make a difference between Brigands and Rebels.Brigands spawn everywhere on the map, they cant be recruited in settlements.Rebels cant spawn anywhere, they can be recruited only in settlements.Every settlement has own rebels and they can be found in descr_regions.So if the city of Rome revolt Rebels(Latins) take control over city, for Corduba-Iberians,Jerusalem- Judaeans. So if we capture settlement which units can expect to recruit? It depends on units you used when you captured settlement Rebels or Brigands. This is where the game becomes perfect .For instance ,if we want to capture any settlement we want with Rebels (Hibernians) who resides in Tara and who has culture tag-britons you can check that in descr_regions we will be able to recruit only Briton units. No matter what settlement we capture with them (Rome,Alexandria,Carthage) we will be able to recruit Britons and only Britons. If we take Goths who resides in Vicus_Gothi their culture tag is german so after capturing settlement Goths can only recruit German units. You can check in descr_regions about culture tag.But if we try to recruit Roman units when we capture any Roman town with rebels we wont able to do that. Why?Becauseof the fact that in starting rebel provinces there arent Rebels who has Roman culture tag in descr_regions.In captured Roman settlements you can recruit Egyptian,Eastern,Greek,Carthaginian and Barbarian units but not Roman units. But if you change culture tag of any settlement to romans_julii you will be able to recruit Roman units. For example if we take REBEL TOWN Iuvavum who has Rebels named Helvetii but default culture tag is gallic so if we change culture tag from gauls to romans_julii then when Rebels(Helvetii )capture any Roman town they will be able to recruit any Roman units they like.
Brigands behave in the same fashion.Brigands spawn everywhere and if we found them in region Dacia which has culture tag dacian then after capturing settlement using these brigands we will be able to recruit only dacian units. Its always the same.So if we change starting culture tag for starting roman provinces from macedon to romans_julii then brigands who are spawned in provinces with roman_julii culture tag after capturing any town-not only Roman town it can be Greek ,Egyptian town-captured town becomes Brigand town not Rebel town and you can recruit Roman units because of the fact that brigands who captured that town were created in province with roman culture tag.So if brigands who were created in Phonecia-Sidon has Seleucid culture tag:capture Sidon,Susa,Cathage or any town with them, then you will be able to recruit in those towns only Seleucid units because of their culture tag.Perfect dont you think? You can merge Rebel armies with Rebel armies or Rebel armies with Brigands armies or Brigands armies with Brigands armies. If you merge Rebels(Latins) into Rebels (Helvetii) Latins will lost their culture tag and it will inherit Helvetii culture tag.It happens the same thing if you merge Helvetii into Latins-Helvetti lose their culture tag and inherits Latins culture tag.Same thing with Rebels and Brigands and Brigands and Brigands .Now Rebel faction has its chance to become mighty Empire. Now if we play with Rebels we can play with units of all other factions against the same units at the same time.So if you kill all family members of any faction all their settlements become yours without classic capturing or if you capture all settlements of any faction any remaining alive family members become yours without bribing them.DREAM BECOMES TRUE!
