My Cardinal in my Knights Templar campaign has been elected to Pope and another Priest made to Cardinal. Is there any benefit to me in this event or have I just lost a goodman?

if one of your cardinals is elected, your favour with the paupacy goes up loads, often to full
however, the same can happen if an allied faction's cardinal is elected, so i useualy do that to keep as may men of god as i can
And the boost in relations is temporary, the new Pope can forget his former allegiance real fast and get angry with you, just like any other Pope.
Whenever I see that there is a good chance for an allied cardinal to get elected I vote for him and keep my loyal cardinal.
Take as many advantages as you can from "your" Pope.
He may die or get assassinated, therefore move fast.

KOSOVO IS SERBIA!!!
Under the proud patronage of the magnificent Tzar
usually the pope will die of old age since barely anyone goes to war with him...and even when they do he has like 5 stacks of papal and swiss guard sitting around rome. Also, the AI sucks at assassination, so that will probably never happen
