    Default Councils and fairs

I had already mentioned something about this before; but now that I've been playing a lot, I've funded dozens of catholic councils for my priests, and dozens of fairs for my merchants, and I am yet to see any trait or ancillary gained by any general, priest or merchant. After noticing this, I have been denying funds for councils and fairs, and guess what: Nothing happens. The priests and merchants don't get angry (at least not in any noticeable manner) and my faction leader doesn't lose any piety.

Either the triggers don't work, or this is some joke of the modders to make you waste your money... :hmmm:

The triggers definitely work. By saying "yes" to Great Councils, your priests have a good chance of picking up the "growing faith" and "orthodox" traits. There are negative trait consequences to saying "no". Not sure about trade fairs, haven't seen one yet, but I know the triggers are definitely in descr_character_traits and not a joke.

The events work out really well, to be honest. Especially the trade fairs seem to be showering my Merchants with traits such as Bean Counter and Bolt Barterer, for instance. The benefits are definitely present.

As I remeber for the benefits to take place your merchants had to be near the capital city.

Yeah they have to be within 50 'tiles' for any affect so if no merchants/priests are near to your capital then I wouldn't pay up. Not sure how far 50 'tiles' stretches to though.

That kinda sucks seeing as how all my merchants are either on the other side of the map or on a ship taking them there.

Will probarly increase the range when next SS comes out, but the only place you can base it on is the capital. Really would like to look at the who economic model, as last time I checked it was only Christopher Columbus who went of to the far reaches of the map, so would like to encourage players to train up there merchanst before sending them off into the wilds of arfrica. As always the problem is, can the Ai cope.

To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer.

ive been pretty good with my fairs etc... as i tend to keep my merchants closer to home, i tend to send them after moderately good resources in close to mid range rather than to that goldmine across the map as whats the point in sending him there if he will make less money due to the bad traits he will get from being far from the capital
Its not the one with youre name on it, its the one addressed to whom this may concern you have to worry about
