Default Having trouble with a couple things

I posted this on thefourthage.org forums but figured maybe someone here knows what's going on also

Okay so I have a pretty nasty issue (I think)

I've installed The New Shadow and The Wars of Men (and all relevant hot-fixes/patches). Before installing the WoM hotfix I tried to play the game as I was getting much too antsy to sit through another installation and 'lo and behold I have NO factions in the box on the left when starting the Provincial campaign (it took me a while to realize what the problem was... since I couldn't see the factions I had no idea what was it meant by choosing something on the list).

So eventually I figured "no problem... I'll install the patch." However, while extracting the hotfix I, too, ran into the security issue. Unlike the previous poster, I have no clue how to turn this crap off on Vista. It must be buried somewhere I can't find it.

So I extracted the folder to my desktop and then copy pasted (replaced) it into the BI folder. It didn't fix anything. I'm HOPING that it didn't actually apply the hotfix and that's my problem because if I have to reinstall everything suicide is a viable, enticing alternative . It took me 3 hours of working just to get RTW to install... I kept getting that nasty 1607 error in Windows Installer and none of the fixes worked.

So the big problem is that I have no factions in my list. I've checked in the descr_strat file and all the factions are PLAYABLE (though they're Sassanids, Lombards, etc... is that correct?). Any ideas?

Anyway, I hope this is an easy fix!

    Thanks for your help guys,
    Kiivit

Update: So I installed the hotfix. I had to download a third party program to actually turn down Vista's security. Dumbass Microsoft. Hotfix didn't really fix anything about this particular issue. I still see the BI intro and don't see any factions in the list.

Also when I quit I got a message saying
"Script error in ...world/maps/campaign/the_new_shadow/descr_strat.txt on line 13 column 1"

As I have now posted at our forums, it's a patch issue, you need to apply the 1.6 *before* installing TNS. So, uninstall BI and TNS, install BI, apply the 1.6 patch and then install TNS.

I'm 100,000,000% positive that I did that, I always check BI's version before installing stuff mods .

    I'll try reinstalling it though.

I actually have to uninstall the whole thing anyway. Stupid Vista. Will check back in a couple hours, thanks for your help!

I didn't install 1.5 before 1.6 and not sure whether I dl'd the incremental or full. Maybe that's the problem.

Patching Bi to 1.6 will automatically patch RTW to 1.5. Your "error report" about the script error is indicative of a not-installed patch; perhaps I'm wrong, but I've seen this like 1,000 times before. Anyway, let us know how it goes!

I reinstalled absolutely everything in the order I was supposed to and the problem persists.

    No factions

Now I'm 100,000,000,000% positive I installed the patch correctly. Afterward I checked BI's properties and they say it's 1.6.

Any other ideas? I reinstalled RTW/BI specifically to play this mod.

Can you please post a screen of your faction selection menu? This is quite confusing.

I got it working! I have no clue what I did... it wasn't working before but it works fine now!

I'm so excited but I have to go out to dinner so I get to wait until I get home to play -.-

    Thanks for your help!

(Oh and it wasn't that there were no factions there... since I couldn't move forwards from the campaign selection menu I assumed there were no factions. It wasn't recognizing that I was selecting a campaign. Sorry 'bout that)
