    Default battle_models.modeldb problem

I decided to try adding a new faction to my mod and used DukeofSerbia's tutorial to do it. All went well and it worked but I wanted to add units from another faction to the new one and it seemed I needed to add the battle_models.modeldb file so I created a unit_models folder and extracted KnightErrant's formatted version and the checker into it. I haven't added any units to my mod but I have completely deleted a fair number of the factions so I've had to delete all their entries and specific units. Anyway my mod works fine without battle_models but with it I get an unspecified error before the loading screen. The checker comes up with no errors and Find has found no references to the deleted factions. I realise it's a very horrible file to edit but I'm pretty sure I edited it correctly. It is possible their is still something in there that isn't in EDU or EDB but I'm most concerned about whether the formatted version I used isn't compatible with the latest patch of M2TW. Could this be the problem or should I keep looking for errors?

Have you updated the serialization number at the top of the modeldb file after deleting those entries?

    Yep.

I'll try the updated version. Not sure the one I downloaded was updated.

No wait it is the same one. Must be an anomaly elsewhere then. Looks like a lot of checking for me .

One thing that confused me is that in battle_models Hungary has an ee_cannon but not in EDU or EDB. Does anybody know why? I'm not sure whether to delete this or not. It doesn't seem to make a difference at the moment but it still might be a problem.

I added the crusaders unit_model folder into my mod and it works. Could this be a kingdoms thing? Anyway I'm going to just use this one but it means I'll have to format it like Knighterrant's.

    Don't delete the modeldb entry.

Simply keep in mind: the game needs the modeldb file to look up textures. It can only look up models that are in the EDU.

Entry in the modeldb but not in the EDU - ignore!!!
There is no limit to entries in the modeldb that I know of.

So it doesn't matter if there are extra entries in modeldb that aren't in EDU?

Right then I've been doing this all wrong. I was checking modeldb with EDU when I should have been doing it the other way round. I've just gone and checked if the original formatted version worked without doing anything and it does (can't belief I didn't do that earlier!) so it's evidently something I've deleted. Thanks for all your help yet again.
