    Default Debug Mode for MTW?

    I modified the unit and building files to try out some things and now I can't get the game running again. I know that this is most likely caused by a typo I did somewhere, but I can't find the last one. I added the "show_err" suffix to my shortcut, but it just says "encountered a fatal error and will exit" - great, the message could also say "there is something wrong. Find it for yourself."

    Is there a way to get a precise message on what file is ed up like rome always did? Ah, from a modders point of view I miss rome :/ It at least told you what went wrong.

    the cause could be a ';' not well placed or a number in the wrong line.
    Next time you edit something, don't forget to back up the original files, and I recommend you to have a full back up copy of the game with no modifications so, if anything happens you could just delete the whole game and paste the 'virgin' version.
    You could compare it with good files and try finding the error (if you have a couple of spare free hours lol)

    You're right, of course. But I considered the changes very basic ones and I didn't expect them to cause trouble plus I lost myself in the files adding something here, changing something there...

    Guess I have to start over. But is there really no way to make the game telling me what's wrong? Rome could do that :/

    I've been having for experimenting with some files as well. Turned Ireland Pagan!

    I suggest making a custom campaign folder..

    basically just the first step in this thread:

    http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=50437

    I copy my custom campaign to my desktop and work on the files from my in game custom campaign folder. That way I have a back-up of my custom campaign if I mess up and if a new version comes out I can update my game and still have my preferred modded files on my desktop that will 95% chance work.

    Best of all nothing you do will mess with your "imperial campaign" files. So you always have a working version of the game.

    Did you try changing "error" in your DLV.ext to "trace" and try to repeat the bug... It actually does a pretty good job of telling you what you did wrong...

    I just started over, a bit more careful this time. The funny thing is that I monitored my changes via the broken files exactly, I did the exact same - and this time it worked. Strange.

    The trace option didn't work, a log file wasn't even created.

    Whenever I make changes I try to make one change, then test it, and when that works make a backup and make the next change. It's easier to find the culprit that way.

    [log]
    to = logs/system.log.txt
    level = * trace

    in DLV_ext.cfg, creates a logfile in :\MTW2\logs
