Again inspired by Bomberboy's French AAR Glory or Death, i started myself a French campaign.

A short but true ChivTW tale (difficulty M/H)

Anno Domini 1092

All went good, France captured the big town Arles (as preparation for the crusading haven into the Levante), then the mighty Geneva ... done by the crown heir Hugues Capet with Mercenary MenAtArms, very few Axemen Mercs and Sergeants/SpearMilitia, and Levies Spear and Archers.

The Independents finally took revenge, and sieged a fort near Clermont, that stopped their way to Clermont or eventually further back to Geneva, the fort only garrisoned by one unit Sergeants ... . Just the Burgundians, one year ago, i took their capital Geneva.

Well, i couldn't stand it longer that these people own my roads (as they hang around in Auvergne areas since a few years now), and now they start to siege my forts ... . So anyway, Hugues, at this time in Geneva now with his semi-elite army incl. merc Burgundian Foot Knights and a lot of Frankish MenAtArms, went out to relief the besieged fort.

As he and his army plus the men of Clermont incl. the noble Chancelor Bernard, about the same size as the Burgundians, arrived the region around the fort on the opposite side of the besiegers, the Burgundian army immediately assaulted the fort with 4 rams.

Hugues and Bernards men approached at the horizon quick to rescue the poor garrison of Sergeants.

The crown heir was very eager to spot and attack the assaulting Burgundians and called Bernard to follow him, they rode hard and fast, both charged then into 2 units of Burgundian MenAtArms who were currently on the way into the breach of the fort-wall, but these MenAtArms reacted very quick and turned their shields and spears into the direction of the charging French nobles before they arrived: Bernard died quick during this charge, and a few more knights fell, Hugues and the knights withdraw back to the other side of the fort, where the army shall arrive, but then they saw, that the garrison of Sergeants are nearly on the way to be killed to the last man, so Hugues called the whole army to run as fast as they can to storm into the fort, now full of Burgundians in the meantime ... the desaster began ... Hugues army, tired of the hard march, pretty fast were completely exhausted as they started to fight and one unit after the other started to rout ... .

The result: Hugues, the crown heir, Bernard, the chancleor, and the whole army died/routed, only 2 units of levy archers survived.

A black day for the French Kingdom.

It is always dark in my Sicilian kingdom...... wherever you look...... enemies......whatever you do....debts......wherever you go......troubles.......

With every enemy gone, two more arise.......... with every debt payed........ another one comes........ whichever path you choose............... it leads in another problem........truly dark days have come for our once small but bright Kingdom of Norman-Sicily.....
