    Default Question on ss6.1

I only have the original game, no expansion, and I have some questions... If I install the expansion, can I still play the original game (patched with SS4.1?) If I patch the expansion w/ SS6.1 can I play the original game w/ the SS6.1 patch? It's hard to explain what I'm trying to ask, but I really don't like how the expansion is set up, especially the fact that I have to choose from four different types of campaigns, I just want to play on a big map (like the original game). I guess this is another way to put the question: does SS6.1 patch the expansion or the original game w/out the expansion?

Yes, you can still play the "vanilla" grand campaign. Installing Kingdoms will give you a separate desktop icon for each Kingdoms campaign. You'll still have a desktop shortcut to M2TW, so it will still be available.

But in 6.1 it says all those new factions/units/features are available, are they only available on one of the four Kingdoms campaigns? Or are those new factions/units/features also available on the vanilla game?

No, they're available in the SS campaigns (early or late). Kingdoms is required to get some of the units and features from the various Kingdoms campaigns into the SS grand campaigns.

So it's impossible to have all the SS6.1 factions on the map at once since the game is divided into Americas, Britannia, Crusades, and Teutonic campaign. Am I correct?

SS 4.1 will install to a folder called something like Staninless_Steel_4.1 as do all MTW2 mods

SS 6.1 being a Kingdoms mod will install to the \mods folder eg \mods\Stainless_Steel_6, so you can have both installed on your pc at the same time and play anything you like (as long as you swap disks of course).

To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer.

You're not grasping the point. In the SS6.1 grand campaigns, either early or late, all appropriate factions and units are present on the bigger map. This is completely separate from the Kingdoms "mini-campaigns".

Did you read the features thread?

If you want to play on a big map, install one kingdoms expansion just to enable you to play SS 6.1. SS 6.1 requires kingdoms only for the features. It is a grand campaign with a much bigger map and way better than the original. It is what the original should have been. I own kingdoms but have never played one of the Kingdom campaigns. I only play SS.

    That clears it up. Thanks!
