Default Dominion of the Sword Internal recruitment thread!

This thread is aimed, quite simply, at YOU! the individuals who (like myself) keep a constant vigil over the DotS forum here, eagerly anticipating the latest word on the progress of the mod...

We here at DotS are always on the lookout for individuals that can help us move further and faster towards completion. Are you one of these people? We are currently in need of capable workers in the following fields:

Tech Tree researchers: no experience required but commitment and the apropriate resources are a must.
Traits/VnV's modders: experience and availability needed as well as a desire to tackle some different traits related features we are trying to implement.

Anyone with experience in these fields and an interest in seeing this mod completed please identify yourself to either myself or Hross. As our needs change, this thread will be updated so check back regularly.

So go on, what do you have to lose?

All hayle Hross, and the One True Mod!!!

As for the tech-tree research, while support for all areas is welcome, the areas where there is the greatest need for new researchers are
    1) Eastern Europe (Orthodox factions)
    2) Italy (Italian factions)

As Banzai wrote above, the basic requirements are motivation and access to good sources.

Interested in history? Want to see a historically accurate Medieval2? This is your chance to make an impact!

    Cheers,
    Alkidas

You can contact Hross, Banzai or me.

hmmm... I am interested in researching Italian and Orthodox factions...
But, I have no modding experience, and I do not really know what specific things I would have to research etc. ... :hmmm:

We are interested in administrative, financial and judicial institutions of the states mentioned. For instance one relevant book or a few articles by a scholar in the field in question (e.g. Venice) may contain all the information you need.

Previous modding experience is not required.

This is what is required of our tech-tree researchers:
    1) Motivation and commitment
    2) Access to useful sources

If you are interested, you can PM me for more information.

hmmm... to be honest, I think the job of researcher is far beyond me...
I already have enough work on my hands with GCSE's, and I have no real access to advanced sources of information...

What resources does a tech-tree researcher require?
And what does it entail exactly?
I will not be able to reply quickly, as I am off on my hols for 3 weeks in a moment!!
    yay.

Tech-tree research is about the financial, administrative & judicial institutions in different medieval states. So the resources would be dealing with the society of the state (faction) in question. For instance, one good book about the way medieval Portugal was governed may give a lot of useful information concerning that faction. Good internet resources aren't excluded as main sources (but obviously Wikipedia is). Scholarly journals are of course accepted. A researcher doesn't need to be an expert: all that it really takes is motivation and access to good sources. We do accept researchers for just one faction or a larger set of factions (for instance, Eastern Europe) as long as their work is good. If you think that you might have what we are looking for but you're not quite sure (or if you have more specific questions about tech-tree research), feel free to contact me and ask!

we are currently in need of researchers on a short term basis to help us name appropriate placeholders for the last of our unit lists. the factions needed to be done are: lithuania, bulgaria, serbia, kiev, novgorod, france and armenia. the unit names are in the appropriate languages and as such we need people who can speak these languages to complete our lists.

also we are still in need of anyone who can do traits/VnV's.

anyone who can help please either post here or PM myself or hross.

I did a lot of research on france and HRE for the never completed medieval total realism mod. If you need someone, maybe I can help with France (and HRE and to a lesser extent italian factions, if needed). I don't know what you really expect, but i can do some work on traits and ancillaries to.
    just pm me if interested.

If it is, i could probably do it. Is there a tutorial somewhere for that?
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

tutorials are all at the TWC modding tutorials wiki.

not a difficult job really, but it does take time.

The team still requires short term researchers to assist in naming placeholder units for some of our factions, any expressions of interest should come through myself or Hross.

well, we need pretty advanced stuff. We have probably gone through around 50 researchers since we started. Most think they want to help, realise how much work is involved and then can't handle the rest.
Anything above knowing an Osprey book inside and out is helpful, if we can find it in Wikipedia or the net then it isn't useful. I'm not saying we use those two sources much but it's really funnny how so many people say Osprey and Wikipedia is a joke and yet when you post stuff that is actually there already, basic facts- say the rise of the Ottomans, they just don't know it. EG see the various Muslim threads here.
My point is, do you really know your stuff or not? Do you have the time? Do you have the energy?
If you aren't sure, then it's probably not for you. DotS is extremely hard work.

I can help you anytime as you want, if you still need help that is, on East Europe, as a researcher of course. Anything you want to ask of me, name it... i know its waaaay late but I'm available.
