    Default Quite mad..

    Hello!
So, Im playing Crusades campaign as the PoA and currently I got into a war with Mongols.
Hmm my citadel in Mosul is besieged by 6 stack but only 4 attack.
So, here is where the problem begins. They attack me, I dont even loose 1/18th of my army, yay for Hospitallers(sp?) and then the battle doesnt continue.. I kill off one invading force but the rest is just waiting for a miracle to happen. I mean they have those rockets but instead they just send of troops to capture the remaining rams and such. I kill the infantry but cavalry just stands there. I know if I attack they slaughter me with arrows?
So does anyone have any idea why they just stand there. I lost about 3 hrs on these pointless battles.. and i dont really want to use the "time" option cause I always wanted to destroy the entire force...

So you got a big problem
because thats a dumb AI problem when sieging castles
its normal that they go for the siege equipment if not all gates or wales are broken
so I often won battles because the AI stoped the siege, which is quite boring because it would be
great to realy defend a castle up to the last wall.

maybe a mod can solve the problem

I'm a little confused....... at one point in your statement I get the impression you are the one besieged..."my citadel in Mosul is besieged by 6 stack but only 4 attack" at another point.... your the besieger "they just send of troops to capture the remaining rams and such." If they're the besiegers the rams are already theirs, right? Or were these rams left by the previously destroyed armys?

If you are the besieged then.....
Maybe they are trying to starve you out?
Any idea of how long you can hold up under seige?
Do you have any artillery to sling something at them, and force their hand?

Thompson45cal. who hasn't a clue if that may have helped or not.

i know exactly what he's talking about. it drives me crazy too. he is fighting a defense of his castle. the mongols got smashed trying to break through the walls. he has enough defenders for static defense. the rest of the mongols are beyond range, and not attcking, just sitting still. they wont move. and he doesnt have enough to meet them on the field outside the walls or he will lose. also he does not use timed battles option. therefore he has only 1 option: lose. even though by rights he could defend.

Agreed. I remember I had the same problem, that's why I always went for timed battles before the new patch fixes that allegedly fix this problem. Also in the mods I play I haven't encountered this problem. I play Lands To Conquer. Stainless Steel uses the same AI after version 5 or 6 I think so you won't see this there either.

In my campaigns the AI always goes parading with their cannons and other wall destroying siege equipment (not the rams, ladders, siege towers) they just parade around the city , and do not attack untill I've destroyed all their siege equipment.

He who wishes to command must know what it's like to obey.

Ugh so I tried few ideas, there was one that proved successful but not entirely. All I did was move all my units to the last wall in the citadel, where the plaza is located. 3 out of 4 armies marched against me, but yet again one stood in the initial place. (the one with those Horse archers... not gonna chase em around) after wasting about 2 hrs, I ended this madness with timed battle...

Yup. Me, too. Timed battles all the way. That way the A.I. can not win by testing your (real time) patience.

Well another thing you can try to do is provoke them into getting closer to the city. I achieve this most of the time by sending out one of my most prized units such as the general. But then again, the AI is actually playing it pretty smart by making YOU try and come out so THEY can slaughter you.

Hehe I tried that, I even left a unit of Edessan Guard at the entrence so that they wouldnt have to bother with the rams. It worked but those Edessan Guards and worthless and lost most of them. Timed Battle was the only option.
And yeah, Edessan Guards are bad, I dont know how they play agianst other factions but those Mongol Heavy Archers chewed them up easily. But they do look good tho, I give them that.

OK, they are assaulting my citadel. I am the one in trouble. One army attcks while 3 other reinforcing armies are waiting. So I kill off the first attack, barely lost any soldiers. So Im thinking, "Hey at this rate I can knock off the Mongols in couple of turns" So i stand at the walls, but the IA isnt moving anywhere. If I go out and attack, rockets will chew me before i even reach the enemy. I tried leaving the rams for them, but this is a citadel, so many defenses. Ill try some other ideas, but if it wont work I guess Ill use the timed battle option.

I absolutely hate this issue. Can't realy give you any tips but you're not alone in that it's happening to you. God that drives me nuts when I hsould easily when against the Turks becasue all they have are horse cavalry but then i die cuz i have to chase em around.

    Stupid AI lol
