    Default The number of turns

So I read in "The World is Round" thread that you get "The World is Round" message around turn 330. But at the beginning of the game the menu thing (the place where you can see who you need to kill to win and where they start) says there are only 200 turns left. I'm playing vanilla gold, so can someone tell me how that works?

Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)

I don't know how you're getting to turn 330 using vanilla if you have:

    start_date 1080 summer
    end_date 1530 winter
    timescale 2.00

    You should only have 225.

Perhaps you're confusing turns with years.

It is not turn 330 but between 320 and 328 years after the start of the game.

but 1 year is 2 turns, and it says at the start of the game there are 200 TURNS, so that would mean only 100 YEARS, so do I get a message asking me if I want to play some more?

An unmodded / unedited game plays at two years per turn giving you 225 turns to win the game before 1530 (you can continue after that but you can't win). If you edit the files and play one turn is a 0.5 year you can play 900 turns until 1530 which is very loooong time to finish the game.

Okay so I can't complete my objective in the traditional way but I can still keep playing till the year 2008 and then take over the whole world, right?

To organize the thoughts of Monsieur Alphonse and others into one post:

An unmodded M2TW game goes from 1080 A.D. to 1530 A.D. (1530 is the last date to win the long campaign, but you can play longer.)

    At 2 years per turn, that is 1530 A.D. - 1080 A.D. = 450 years = 225 turns.

    The "world is round," event occurs between 320 and 328 years into the game. That is 1080 A.D. + 320 to 328 years = 1400 A.D. to 1408 A.D.

At 2 years per turn, the "world is round," event is 320 to 328 years = 160 to 164 turns into the game.

you must have edited the files, go back and reset the timescale per turn, so that at the end of the 200 turns its 400 years

but I thought we were playing 2 turns per year not 2 years per turn

and if 2 turns = 1 year, then 20 turns is 10 years and 200 turns is 100 years.

It is 1 turn = 2 years if you are playing vanilla 1.2 M2TW.

If you are playing a mod it could easily be the other way around.

But I thought a turn was half a year, but what you're telling me is a turn is two years...

Put it this way: Is the turn the same length as in RTW?

I think that it's sort of both, as characters age every two turns, but each turn advances two years. So, if at turn 1 your character is thirty years of age and it's 1080, at the start of turn three, it's 1084, but your character has just turned thirty one.

Yes. you got it right: A turn is 2 years

No, it is not. In RTW each turn was 6 months. In M2TW each turn is 24 months (Well, they average out to 24 months each. Since you have summer and winter, it is probably an 18/30/18/30 month progression, instead of 24/24/24/24.)

But this progression would age your generals incredibly fast, and you would lose them 15 or 20 turns after coming of age. Thus, generals age more slowly. (See KnightOfSicily's post.)
