The pope on crusade

On LTC Mod a Crusade was called then I saw the crusade grows thing and it said the papal states but the pope can't go on crusade can any one tell me why.

because the pope is a very important person and sending him on a crusade could foolishly throw away his life, besides, the popes are usually pretty old anyway.

It actually is the Pope, the Cardinals just don't anyone to know. And the Cardinals don't kill it cause they think it's Jesus' ****. so they won't let the Pope on a Crusade for fear of a big rock turning it into a pancake.
