[M2TW AAR] Empire De Lyon -a French AAR

This is a french AAR. i am using no cheats and should update once every two days or so i'd love to hear what everyone thinks of it. thank you.

Le DeLyon Dynasty.



Overview of the Era.

King Phillip was crowned Emperor of France by Pope Tomascius of Portugal. Relations with the Holy Roman Empire are deteriorating due to the aquisition of Antwerp and Metz. English relations are recovering from a breif standoff near Normandy. Land disputes with Germany(HRE) are causing an increase in tensions.

Winter-1158: Paris and Angers are attacked and besieged by England, seemingly for no reason.

Spring-1159: Battles in Normandy, inconclusive, siege of paris is broken, battle about 60klm outside of paris led by Jourdain DeLyon, he is defeated. a battle takes place near Antwerp, French victory.

Winter-1159: Jourdain DeLyon wins a French victory in eastern normandy and moves his army across the norman border. a victory in Britanny for France led by captain Loys. Raoulet Poitevin invades England from Antwerp with 2211 men near Nottingham. Cpt.Thevenin wins a French victory in southern normandy but is attacked by a superior force and pushed into Brittany, he is then defeated on December 21st.

Spring-1160: Raoulet Poitevin dies of natural causes during the invasion of Nottingham, his army is put in the charge of Cpt.Raymond who wins a victory against an English army near the shore. Jourdain DeLyon wins the battle near Caen and sieges Caen two days later. a French defeat in Brittany followed by a victory led by Cpt.Paul(English) retreats for Normandy , London is blockaded.

Winter-1160: Jourdain DeLyon assaults Caen and wins. the Pope dies, and a Spanish Pope is elected, Cpt. Raymond sieges Nottingham. Emperor Philip Issues the Edict de la crown de Normandie-

Edict de la Crown de Normandie:
Rufus, King of England holds the land of a crown he, nor his family rightfully own, with the formation of French Empire in 1145, all French lands and French speaking lands are under the rule of the Empire of France. If Rufus does not hand the crown of Normandy to the Emperor a reaction of by the full might of the Imperial Army of France will be facing the English King and his people.

Pope Barone supports the Ultimatum and it is sent to England.

Spring-1161: the English retreat from normandy completes as Cpt.Paul joins the English navy and retreats to Sussex. Cpt.Raymond is defeated at Nottingham.

Winter-1161: Emperor Philip dies of natural causes in Paris, Emperor Guillemot is Crowned by the Pope. The German Empire moves over 900 soldiers across the border into Alsace-Lorraine (Metz)

Spring-1162: The Ultimatum is delivered to England and peace talks begin. German Soldiers Withdraw from Alsace-Lorraine

Winter-1162: England accepts the Ultimatum along with a peace treaty and concedes to pay 2200 florins per six months for two years.

Spring-1163: The French Military begins to recover from the war with England.(downsizing)

Winter-1163: Military Reformation ends and the Empire begins to economically recover from the war.

Spring-1165:

Winter-1165: Rioting in Rennes, Michiel's Army reinforces the city. Thension with the HRE rise due to standoff in Alps near Milan.

Spring-1166 Heretics cause unrest near Angers Military reformation relieves over 3000 men of active service. Tensions with German Empire ontinue to rise. Vincet D'Angers is tried and executed for Heracy. Cpt. Huguenin and Guillemin corner German captain Markus.



Winter-1166: Holy Roman Empire Excommunicated, War Declared over continued movement of German armies through and into French Territory. Battle of Lorraine fought by Cpt.Huguenin and Cpt.Guillemin.

Battle of Lorraine: December 3rd 1166.

The battle began on a cold and frigid day, slight snow was trickling down from the sky above. Captain Huguenin and his forces of light infantry stood near the top of a large hill, the German forces just on the other side.

Cpt. Guillemin's forces were coming from behind the germans on their left with three units of archers and 1 unit of light calvalry and crossbowmen.

the lines of german spearmen and french infantry met on the german side of the hill.

the charge pushes the german archers to the back of the hill, where they are exposed to the french calvary, the french horsemen charged up the hill and met with the archers.

French archers then reached range and began reigning hell upon the German infantry.

Cool, so far, I like, it but how come u have 115 archers in 1 unit????? )))))

Also, i think ur position, with 170000 gold, and quite a lot of land, provides u with powerfull enough support to crush the Emperor )

Spring-1167: Henry Capet mobilizes an army of over 1739 men to inavade western germany. the Heretics near Angers are killed and captain Anthoine leads force from Antwerp with 1744 men.

Winter-1167: Assault on Bern. Henry Capet stands off near Frankfurt, Toulouse is blockaded.
Henry Capet wins battle near frankfurt. Milan is sieged.

The Battle Of Bern. With the assurance of a loyal Frenchmen, who found work as a gatekeeper at Bern. the honored Cpt. Guillenin assaults Bern. the French Calvary charged, valiantly, their hair and banners swaying in the cold german wind. as promised the gate opened for them. they moved toward the center courtyard.

i positioned my archers on the enemy walls as their pathetic garrison of only their emperor and his bodyguard and another 60 spearmen held the castle, or as those filthy german dogs would call it a "Schloss". my calvary moved towards a side street while my archers rained arrows down from the walls.

Captain Guillenin was Slain by their ugly Kaiser and his fat piggy bodyguard, the german calvary charges down the main street of the castle

their calvary engaged french archers, who would not fit on the wall near the gate, the brave archers held firm and fought well killing the enemy emperor.

the body guard unit routs from the fight, what's left of these valiant archers engage them in the city center. and the remnant of their forces route.

i've been pretty busy lately and not able to continue the game. thanks for reading and i'd love more feedback

ok first of all i've been playing this for about 4 hours, about two hours of this was straight battles with the HRE i have a HUGE update. a three turn update is going to span my next two posts, with this i'll do the boring stuff, next post is the Battle on the Rhein, and the post after that is the Battle of Milan. hope you guys like them lots o' pertty screenshots too. BTW, these are only the most important battles, over the span of these three turns over 6! battles were fought, many of them more like skirmishes, and really these didnt resolve much at all, Milan and the Rhein were battles that both messed with the HRE's warplan and mine so their the only ones included.

Spring-1168: A Crusade is called on Cairo. riots happen in Milan killing over 1000 civilians. in world events Sicily and the Papal States declare war on each other. the HRE and the Papal states form an alliance
and Sicily is excommunicated.

Henry Capet moves south defeating a rebel army near the Rhein (border between France and Germany btw)
Cpt. Anthione reaches and begins the Siege of Frankfurt, repels german attempt to lift the siege.
War expenditure begins to outstrip income.
Rebels defeat a French army near Tolouse.
Fulk DeLyon moves the Genoan garrison to Milan to aid in lifting the German siege.
Cpt. Lukas(HRE) engages Henry Capet with over 2200 men near the Rhein river.
Cpt. Sifridus(HRE) begins the Battle of Milan
Sicily approaches France with the Tolouse Coalition
Cpt.Michiel defeats rebel army in northern Toulouse twice (two rebel armies)
The Tolouse Coalition

In response to the formation of the Holy Entante (an alliance between Germany and the Papal States) Allied against France and Sicily. Sicily and France from the Toulouse Coalition, an alliance between to two powers to counter-balance the centrilised religious super power that the Holy Entante could become.

Battle Near the Rhein River


"If God wills it I will Die amongst you Brave Frenchmen, and my death would serve the Empire in the same way all of yours will today! across that river lies land that belongs to France, these German Dogs wish to take it from us, than they can take it from our COLD DEAD HANDS!!!"-Henry Capet, Battle of Rhein River-1168


A steady drizzle drew over the field as the proud armies of france, with the river to their right, and mountains to their left looked upon the mottled vomit color of the armies of germany.
Henry's plan was to use his heavy calvary as his primary shocktroops and his archers to wear away at the enemy spearmen, and the light infantry would hold the line of battle.

As the battle Commenced German Archers began vollying French archers and Infantry as the 2 french flanking forces moved into position on opposing hilltops on both sides of the battle.

vollies of flame began raining and by god's grace these heathen's would feel the raining fires of hell at the end of this day.

the flanking forces engaged along with the french shock calvary.

the brave light infantry began to shakily hold the line.

the flank initially broke the enemy's rear front, stopping their archers and engaging their infantry.

however the frontlines of the french forces broke and Henry valiantly charged the enemy screaming "We shall Vanquish our enemies in the pits of hell, but forget not they are used to hell and we heaven for becoming a french hero this day would be the equivalent of entering the gates of saint peter!" he was then caught heart with a spear.

devoid of their heroic commander the majority of french forces began to retreat

French archers continued to harrass the enemy force, these men were truly french, and loyal to their Emperor, Country and God for they retreated not and kept fighting under un-matchable odds.

finally when these true frenchmen had no arrows with witch to shoot, they drew daggers and twigs and rushed at the foe crying "pour la gloire de la France"

Fulk DeLyon moves toward Bologna

Spring-1169: Pope orders a ceasefire between HRE and IEF (imperial Empire of France)
Fulk DeLyon blockades the Balogna river
Taxes are lowered in Frankfurt to prevent rioting.
Germany Rejects peace talks
Venice joins the Toulouse Coalition
Trade Lanes are opened with the Greek Empire (what western europe called the Byzantines)
Pope Barone Dies


Winter-1169: Pope Petrus of Hungary is elected, france opposes him for keeping the alliance with the German Empire
Imperial Court of France demans a continuation of the war with germany, in direct opposition to the pope's warnings
Dimenche Capet dies of pnumonia
Fulk DeLyon is sieged at Bologna River
Emperor Guillemot dies, december 29th, 1169

Spring-1170: Jourdain DeLyon is crowned Empereur de France
Battle of Bologna river-prisoners are ransomed, accepted

A damp night awaited the veteran frenchmen under Fulk DeLyon as they prepared to break the german siege

the french calvary moved from the gate first and to either side of it, french ranged soldiers moving out second.

as french crossbowmen harrass the german spearmen then charge like angry swallows

Cpt. Frangoys is attacked at Milan by the rebels, he advances in the other direction.



Spring-1171: Emperor Jourdain Sieges Milan
French Navy is defeated at Genoa, and genoa is blockaded.
German Agression is becoming much more frequent, the Imperial Court discusses the option of Starting a war with the pope.

(now before you read this i'd like to tell you that by some unbeleivable luck crossbowmen have slightly better range than archers and this battle took about 45 minuets, keep that crossbowmen thing in mind though )

A sparklingly clear sky reflected off of the river as the armies looked across it at each other.


archers take positions to begin exchanging fire, my crossbowmen do the same.
the dumb sausage eaters brought only shortbows, and no crossbows, so were out ranged, the french could hit them and they could not hit us.
french crossbowmen unleashed deadly volley after volley felling tons of the beer loving swine.


(about 35 minuets worth of vollying go on) french crossbowmen run out of ammunition and the germans look like they have no intention of getting wet.
so the brave frenchmen charge across the river heavy melee goes on
after they were beaten to a pulp the swine fled to their homeland

Winter-1171: Massive Moorish Jihad army lands near Genoa.
Milan succumbs to the siege and agree's to rejoin the empire, most of the citizins detest this


Spring-1172: the foolish Moorish Jihad army for absoloutly no reason attacks a tiny border force near the alps than moves into germany.
Poland is Excommunicated
Germans siege the fort at the Bologna River and blockaded Genoa


Winter-1172: French defeate German navy at Genoa
English force is sighted near Bruges
Skirmishes in easter milan severly weaken german foward force, over 778 german casualties (about 4 battles)
