    Default praetorians/urban cohort and roman cav

    hey guys

    what do you think about praetorian and urban cohorts? dont you recruit them cause of 2turns/unit and the "not-retrainable-almost-everywhere"-factor or just because they are so freakin strong?

    and what do you say about roman cav? which do you prefer? do you mind waiting 2 turn for a praetorian cav?

    well the praetorian cohorts are retrainable in any city with an imperial palace. the thing is that usually a conquered city that has an imperial palace will also have an urban barrack.
    and yeah, waiting 2 turns for praetorians is adequate since you shouldn't be losing whole units, only retraining them.

    by asking about praetorian cav i didnt mean the retrain but the initial training. but i guess in this case its worth it, because its by far better than the standard roman cav.

    I train the best units, no matter how many turns. Besides,two units of a lot os stuff the enemy sends at you will be slaughtered anyway by one urban cohort, especially if you have any kind of blacksmith.

    Yeah, I suppose in the end it's worth the wait for the damage they do

    in the beggining i make legionarres and roman cav, but as i get more cities that can make preats and urbans i start to upgrade to them, and in most of my games im at war with the other romans at this time so i need the units in one turn rather than two, bribes only work but so far

    One or two praetorians or urbans kill 3-4 regular legion cohorts, so for me I take the risk and go for the quick elite battles.

    urban cohorts rule. and i think that praetorian cavalry are the strongest in the game. So i wait for them cos theyr so damn worth it. the urban cohort is just super, it has great armor great weapons and skills, and they seem to be experts at the throwing of their pilla always killing at every throw.

    that depends on how you play it, going face to face, yes to urbans would win, but if you split the men into i main lin of 2, and 2 divisions of one you would win with at least one unit left over

    like this
    L= legionary cohort
    U= urban cohort

    yeah, i don't mind waiting the xtra turn for urbans/praetorians, or for praetorian cav. They kick @$$. True, u can't retrain them most places early on, but they rarely need retrained cause theyre so strong.
