Thread: Forgotten or Unkown games that rock

    Add another
    Darklands

It has the best aspects of games like Baldurs Gate, Oblivion/Morrowind, and pretty much any RPG i've seen. Probably the best open ended game of all time as it allows you to do anything you want, similar to Oblivion, except with far more involved and interesting results. This is a game that you can do nothing but wander the countryside and still have fun.

    Its setting is medieval germany.

The most interesting aspect of the game is that everywhere you go you have MANY choices of what to do, in terms of conversations and scripted events.

    Funny Darklands moments:
Purposely have a low skill character make explosives in an inn in a large city like Aachen or Frankfort. Usually resulting in many people dying and various forms of hilarity.

Refusing to enter a city through normal means IE:
When arriving on ship pray to a saint, form of spell casting in the game, so that you can walk on water before reaching the dock.
Use Alchemy to cause a "distraction" at the gates or wall.
Sneaking in during night having Nightwatch catch you resulting in a fun battle and making the guard of the city go .

    Other funny things:
Ask for sanctuary at a Church having done no crime, causes suspicions and the whole city wondering WTF? You then surrender to the guards but try to violently escape, but purposely get caught. Depending on what you do this either sends you to prison or to get killed, if in prison pray to a saint or use alchemy to do something hilarious. If you are going to be killed however wait until the last moment when you are on the gallows or ready to be beheaded and escape, having someone with the escape ability, alchemy, or saint, kill everyone on the gallow area and leave.

Since you can gain fame/infamy in this game and its VERY well scripted in terms of events there is literally infinite possibilities of fun/hilarity in this game. the overland map is fun as well, like you can run into Knights and joust them or whatever or run into merchants that are under attack, rescue them, then change your mind and attack them yourself.

You can even attack a castle and challenge the lord to combat, with a reason or at random, and kill him which is always fun.

The combat system in this game is similar to a Baldurs Gate type game.

I used to love this game but for some reason they took it off.

I love free indie games: Cave Story, Knytt, Warning Force, Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden, the N Game, and etc.
I should really start a thread about them.

    CANNON FODDER!

I'm wondering if anyone remembers these three underdogs:
    Syndicate Wars
    Gender Wars
    Take No Prisoner

I remember having a lot of fun playing those, though it was such a looong time ago... so long, oh so long!

So did I and I immidiately felt "at home" when I started playing Empire at War, it's very similar but a lot better concerning graphics and gameplay. The story of FoCom was quite interesting though, albeit a bit cliché and not fitting to the original story of the movies.

Anyway, I want a sequel or a remake, there are far too few games where you can play an evil, demon-controlling entity out there.

Syndicate Wars? Hell, I remember the ORIGINAL Syndicate and the expansion, American Revolt.

Death to Spies. Quite few people know about this, even though imo it's on par with the Hitman series(hope they'll make a sequel).

    Army Men series,i love it!
Then, as throngs of his enemies bore down upon him and one of his followers said, "They are making at thee, O King," "Who else, pray," said Antigonus, "should be their mark? But Demetrius will come to my aid." This was his hope to the last, and to the last he kept watching eagerly for his son; then a whole cloud of javelins were let fly at him and he fell.

Red Baron - released by Dynamix and publisher Sierra.

I swore I'd never install games on my 'works' PC at home. I bought the game in 1993 and it's been downhill ever since. The game allowed you to fly various missions and recorded the whole mission as you went. You could then replay it using various cameras and from any plane.

They also released the Indycar series. Much the same as Red Baron the camera and replays were excellent.

Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name. Please search for Red Baron (game in Wikipedia to check for alternative titles or spellings.

    Link leads me to that.

    No one Lives forever?

This topic has a good list, I actually played Death to Spies! It's cool. I even wrote the lone review of it on gamefaqs.

Oh and Death Rally, man that game rocked. And another more recent game like Death Rally is Racing Gears Advance on the GBA and DS. Both of these games you play from a top down perspective and must win the race, except that you have weapons! Both games let you upgrade your car and your weapons and are challenging. Racing Gears Advance also has characters each with unique abilities.
