Default Certain files not wanting to rebuilt/kingdoms CTD

    Hi!

Long time ago I installed my Kingdoms expansion and eventually made some copies of it on my PC in order to be able to have different mods installed on it and for modding purposes. When I was modding (importing new music, voices, modding skeleton file, etc.) for Paeninsula Italica I noticed that the files like pack.dat, pack.idx, skeletons.dat and skeletons.idx never wanted to rebuilt after I deleted them (in order to get new modded effects). This way I wasn't able to get new music to play etc. I decided to uninstall the whole game and install it anew.
After I installed the main M2TW game in the D:\Medieval II Total War I inserted the Kingdoms CD. First it updated the game to 1.2 an then to 1.3, I choosed to install only Britania campaign. The game installs, I'm asked to restart the PC and I do so. Then first thing I noticed that is kind'a strange and am not sure if it is supposed to happen or not is that while having the Kingdoms dvd inside I click on a "kingdoms" file in the D:\Medieval II Total folder and when the game is loading I get a CTD before i even manage to come into the main game menu!!! It's just a black screen saying "error" and that's it.
If I click on Launcher file in the same folder and then on play button I can choose between Medieval II Total War, Britannia and Stainless Steel. Why is Stainless Steel there as an option? I had SS installed in totally other folder and it still appears as if it would be there (I deleted SS)! Is SS maybe the cause of all my problems?

Do you have a slight idea what might be wrong?

Thank you for any help! + REP will be given

    Best regards,

Did you delete Stainless Steel's registry entry? That's the only way it'd show up in the launcher.

I've used CCleaner so I guess it shouldn't be present any more. How can I manually delete it if it still exists?

Click start, click run, type regedit, enter, click edit/find, type stainless, enter and delete anything it finds.

Okey, thanx. I've done like you said and there were 3 files out of which I am not able to delete "ab default" registry of REG_SZ type and the SS option is still there. ???

What I usually do is default to C:\Program Files\Sega and then rename the default folder Medieval II Total War to other names based on the mod, only when changing packed files. Also, in the shortcut to kingdoms.exe, are you adding the command line --io.filefirst so that it looks for the real file before going to the packed file?

Also check out SOs thread http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ghlight=repack and that should help you out. One thing I noticed also, was that certain kingdoms campaigns rebuild certain files, so maybe try the teutonic one like SO did instead of the Britainnia Campaign.

Anyways, i'll give you + REP guys for trying to help me out. I noticed that I have the same problem with RTW/BI gaem . pack files don't want to rebuilt! What on the world might be the reason to cause this? Maybe 'cos I have multiple copies of each game or what?

I have found to keep things seperate is each Rome mod has its own Ceative Assembly/ Activision folder whichever you have. Whem modding animations as in sptries, textures, cas files, dds flies, etc., they overwrite the files in the original game, not in the mod folder and this is the only way to keep them in their seperate mods.

I have also done the same thing in Medieval II Total War mod in its own Sega folder for the same reason. If I don't, Stainless Steel messes up my DLV files of which messes up my Regions and Provinces files. Even though they all have mod folders of their own, all added animations overwite the original ones.

Thank you irishron. Yeah I also have every mod installed on separate vanilla game installations. That's the only way to be sure nothing is messing up.
I now know what was wrong - I managed the 4 files to rebuilt! I didn't delete also those 4 files in main game's data/animatios and instead just deleted those files in kod's data/animations folder! Didn't know I have to do that to. So here's the solution to all others that have the same problem. hope it helps.

Thanx again both of you who helped me on the mater!
