Default Can't play because of Splash-Screen CTD

    Hi!

I was so looking forward to play Broken Crescent, but unfortunately, I can't, because the game crashes on the splash screen, I hear a "pling" (the sound error messages make ^^), and then the screen is black, with only the M2TW sand-clock rotating in the middle. When I click ESC, I can return back to my desktop.

I have installed my German M2TW game, patched it to v1.02.000, installed Broken Crescent 1.0 and patched it to 1.5, installing the non-English-version-soundfix.

That's what my system.log file says (I deleted it and then tried starting BC, so only the things that are most likely to refer to the error are in there, and not all the old messages):

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The last line in the file would mean something like "M2TW has encountered an unspecific error and is shutting down."

What do you thing, maybe a corrupt download? Or has someone encountered this crash before? Could it have something to do with my German version of the game?

    Thanks in advance!

    K.K

EDIT: Just realized this belongs into the "Tech Help" subforum. Sorry - feel free to move this thread.

    Do you have Windows Vista?

Nope, XP Pro + SP2. Also tried the "Vista Fix", which is basicly a new config file - didn't work.

What I'm going to try once I'm back home from exercising is I'll re-install M2TW, apply the 1.02.001 and the 1.03.000 patches, then BC 1.0, the 1.5 patch and the "Vista Fix" - and hope that it'll work.

Thanks for the link to the soundfix - sounds most interesting, going to add it once I get the game working.

Yep, I read in the other thread, that's why I'm going to give it a try - thanks for the link to the 1.02.001 patch, I was trying to find out why the hack I can't install the 1.3 patch. So you helped a lot.

Now let's see if the 1.3 patch solves the problem...

    EDIT:
Re-installing and applying the 1.02.001 and 1.03.000 patches (and then installing BC 1.0 and 1.5, of course) solved the problem! I didn't even have to apply the "Vista Fix". Have played quite a few rounds now, without a single crash! Superb mod so far.
