Default family members / region ratio

I've asked this question before in another thread where gigantus told me to check the file campaign_db.xml for an answer. Since I didn't find anything, or just failed to figure it out, I'll ask my question again:

Is there a way of modifying the family members (or generals in particular) to region ratio? Right now I don't have enough generals to act as governors in each province and the birthrate looks weird as well. It's in a cycle of baby-boom and stagnation, which looks pretty artificial and isn't all that much fun.

I could really use more family members. Not only because generals are useful, but also because they depth to the game and are fun to groom and train, so to speak. Besides, there's a realism-related factor here. I mean, you only control one settlement per region, so wouldn't it make sense to a governor in each region's capital?

i find that i get to many generals, but in that campaign.xml you can set the retirement age of a female to like 16 and her marriage rdy age to 14, so that gives you 4 turns (2 turns per yr setup) to marry her or she goes by by and a son wis born later for that spot. there is also a way to get more then 4 kids per father which increases ur general pool.

OR a simple way is to build a mayor palace or anything u like and have the generals recruitable.
(keeps the realism factor) if you make expensive and take 2 or 3 turns to finish....meaning in a large city where there is no govnor, you could "train" a qualified individual to be a govnor/general !

16 years might be over the top, but I would take that into consideration: on one condition. I'd need to have some sort of guarantee that a new kid would replace her with little delay. From what I've seen, there's no such guarantee.

    1. I seem to recall accounts of stability issues for people who've used that.
    2. Would this increase the total number of "allowed" family members? Because seeing how not every noble couple "uses up" their pool of 4 children, and some couples even remain childless, I really don't see how that would help. I'd probably just see some couples with 5 or 6 kids without a noticeable increase in my total numbers here.

    Regardless, thanks for trying anyway.

i dont like using more then 4 kids per, id rather just train a general to govern the city, its easier.
lowering the female age of retirment is better.

I've skimmed over that thread and I think it boils down to this:
Any mod makers interested in adding large families for their starting characters?
I'm no real mod maker of course, just ironing out certain annoying features of the game, but my short answer to that question is: no. I'm interested in having a large family, period. If I were to add in a large starting family, my birthrate would suffer and gradually the number of my family members would go down to what I'm having now.

Unless there's something relevant in that thread that I missed. If so, it would be nice if you could correct me.

It says 10 in my campaign_db (although you saying 12 was probably a typo anyway), and I'm probably gonna change it, but first I'd like to know what this entry means exactly. I mean, max age of child 10? This can't be related to coming of age, since they reach adulthood at 16. Thus I'm at a loss as to what this means.

I saw a fix in the Guild, go to campaign_db and change <max_age_of_child uint="12"/> to something lower. For some reason this seems to boost birth rates.
