Default Chivalry to Dread, vice versa

Searched for this and came up with a bunch of stuff having nothing to do with what i want to ask. So...

I have just realized that when I have a general that has even +1 Dread, and i occupy a town/castle that he loses loyalty or vise versa.

I would think that if you make a general the opposite that he would just adjust, regardless of his traits, meaning a counter of traits to off set the originals. Or completely remove the original traits and they would be replaced with his 'new' improved traits.

Example of this is, I started a Byzantine campaign in SS and all there generals start with Chivalry. I exterminate some close settlements with my Prince and i notice after a couple of seiges that his loyalty is at like ~2-3. Checked his traits and it's just traits that make him dreaded, along with his chiv traits. (wish i would have saved a screen shot of it)

Even if i keep exterminating everything in sight eventually his loyalty is non-existent and doesn't rise again. Which i either let him rebel, or pack his bags and he's off to a nice vacation to a rebel ship or to some other factions ship.

Does anyone have a good reason for this other then it just happens? Any comments on it appreciated.

i think its a game mechanic that responds do to you ordering him to do something that contradicts his beliefs, ive never had that happen to me but i prefer to play my characters based on how they start

Well basically i discovered this happening on my spanish campaign, then i tested it on a byz campaign. I get tired of waiting for the moors settlements to slowly convert before taking a settlement and if i exterminate some cities that general loses loyalty which is rather annoying.

Only reason i ask is because i thought there might be another reason. guess only solution would be to not use a general at all and exterminate cities that way..... bound to get a dreaded general i guess.

Well you could give him the privy seal (retinue) - That'll make him loyaler.

Also, you can gain dread from battles too, if you kill all routing enemies, or exterminate - this won't affect the loyalty as much either.

i have tried the privy seal and it didn't do much, he eventually lost all loyalty. The problem isn't gaining dread, i can gain a few marks of dread in 2 turns. It's just keeping him loyal when he changes from chivalry to dread

If you want to add an ancillary or to increase trait to a general, have a look in the cheats thread to find the way to increase loyalty
