Default Why are my generals consistently losing command rating?

Playing on SS 6.1 VH/VH as both Byzantines and England. I've noticed that all of my generals are around 2-4 command stars with every AI general in the 6+ command star range, and it seemed to me at the time that no matter how many battles my generals would win, no matter how many ancillaries they had increasing command, and no matter how many +command traits they had they would never go above 4 stars.

Well on this particular campaign, I have a general with tons of +command traits and ancillaries with 4 command stars. The very next turn he's down to 2. I observed them decreasing for absolutely no reason whatsoever, I checked traits to make sure it wasn't lack of supplies of sickness, but nothing.

He was sitting inside a castle.

So I test it again. I marry a princess off to an AI general with 8 command stars. The very next turn he's down to 3.

What the hell is going on? It's not just the high command ones, my lower command generals are losing theirs as well. I have a born to command general, with no negative traits that is sitting at 0 command.

    It's really irritating.

well im not sure why your family members are losing command with no reason but AI generals do have more command then your generals, there is a hidden trait in the traits files called Ai_Boost, i think (not at my gaming comp so not sure). There are lots of sub mods out there so perhaps on of them is affecting your command in some way?

If you are the attacker and at the initial battle scroll you click retreat, theres a good chance you'll loose a command star. This is simply because you can attack, view the enemies army then not actually initiate a battle, so the star loss could be down to that.

Though you say one of your guys was just sitting in a castle? Seems very strange. It might be a sub-mod.
Give a man a fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of the day.

You're not losing command stars for no reason. You're losing them so that you don't get overpowered generals that can steamroll over anything the AI can throw at you. You lose some stars to make the game more difficult.

IMHO not the right way to make game more challenging

Agreed, but there are only a limited number of ways to increase game difficulty within the limits of what modders can actually mod. I would much prefer to have a much, much, much smarter AI, but that'll never happen. Humans have a brain, the AI doesn't. This will always compensate the player for any loss of command stars they may get.

I haven't noticed any loss of command stars after playing over 50 turns. Is this really a normal thing in SS?
