    Default Artillery Options

In reading online strategy guides for Medieval II, i've realized that different factions have different options regarding cannons. Some may have varying choices on the array of artillery that can be utilized in battle. But how important are cannons to the game? Are they a vital asset, or are they of only moderate or minor importance? Do they give a faction a significant, cost-effective advantage when they are used?

    Thank You!

When facing a high moral faction like the Aztecs, you need something to break their moral. Other than that, they are for show.

I use them to snatch settlements quickly.

In my opinion any use of them in the field is pointless as it would be more cost effective to get a unit of heavy infantry or knights instead of the cannon.

I once had an entire stack of cannons except for one cavalry and one infantry unit defending against a stack of Mongols. I was on a high hill. The Mongols never would come within range and just moved forward and back repeatedly. Time ran out. So if you have enough of them the AI is frightened.

They're also a help on bridge battles. Taking one unit along for the fun of it shouldn't hurt your armies too much, either.

I love to use a ballista or crossbowmen on bridges. The ballista bolts cut through the enemy lines and get so many kills that they should be outlawed by the Geneva convention (like shotguns are).

You don't need a battering ram if you have artillery. Put any type of gunpowder artillery point blank to a gate and you will blow it open in no time.

I have room for artillery in my armies but I dont put them there, the artillery slows your army down on the campaign map. They can do hela damage to traditional units, but in my experience they just have a hard time of hitting them first.

the higher the rank/stats of the cannon the better the chances of destroying the armys moral when u hit them.

Leave it to the modder to perfect the works of the paid developers for no profit at all.
