Default You have two choices, which one?

Your enemy is retreating and you have one cavalry unit avaliable. The enemy General (med-high stats) retreating in one direction and a large amount of troops reteating in the opposite direction, if you go for the troops you will take many prisoners but the General will escape, if you chase the General you will manage to catch up and take him prisoner but the troops will escape, which do you go for?

If there are lots of high value troops routing (good archers, heavy inf) then nail those troops, or you will just have to face them again. A general is useless without an army.

If its a high level general, heir, or king, but with a load of pants spearmen or light inf, then take him..... either ransom him for lots of money or cut of his head.

i would rather go for the troops... i would rather face 1 unit of bodyguards than 3-4 units of normal troops

    three exceptions in this "rule":
    1) if the ai is going heavy on mercenaries and you expect the enemy general escaping to attack you soon, then go for the general.... since the troops cant hire mercenaries
    2) if he is the last surviving member of his faction and you wanna get rid of them
    3) if he is the heir or king, you are low on cash and you think/know (through diplomacy) that the faction has a lot of cash... then capture and ransom (they will always pay for king/heir if they have cash)
There is nothing that can match the exuberance of youth.... except of course, wisdom and treachery.

Definitely agree with this one. I was playing as the Turks and was running decisively low on funds so I built an all HA army with my Sultan and began terrorizing the Byzantine countryside. Naturally his own King and generals led forces out to counter me and in no less than 4 battles, I managed to capture his king twice, his prince and another general and ransomed them for well over 100K florins. Capturing a load of his troops helped my coffers too, but if you want the big money, you obviously need to scoop up the generals. And if you happen to kill them instead....so be it!

This all depends on the situation that you face and as stated above, if it's the King or Hier go for them if not go fro the routing troops. Also if your cavalery isn't fast enough you should go for the troops, infantry are not as fast as cavalery

In my opinion I would go for the troops for two reasons.
    1) get some experience for the calvary.
    2) now the enemy will have to spend some turns and cash in order to get a decent force back.

I would go for the troops becasue:

1: You don't state what kind fo cavalry you have at your disposal so if you have heavy then you may not catch up with him.

2: I think alot of high end troops would be worth more then one general.

Go for the troops. the most expensive and/or dangerous troops first.

Let the general live in disgrace. Allow him to develop the habit of being defeated and feeding you his nation's income in ransom coin or provide fertilizer for your fields with the blood of his countrymen.

if they are good troops like knights or heavy infantry I'd go for them. Id only go for the general if it was crappy spear units or archers.

I'd go for the general if he's a prince or a king, and the troops if they are strong enough to challenge me once again.

I always go for troops. Better to run down slow moving troops than cavarlty that might take a long time to catch up with. As for the general, I'll just take a giant dump on his lawn.

I'd go for them if they were king or heir i start battles with king or heirs just to kill them then withdraw troops.
