Default Windows Media Player Caused A Problem

Ever since I first installed Rome Total War : Gold Edition, I realised that the movies were not playing. After searching the forums, I came to the conclusion that Windows Media Player had corrupted at some point, and needed to be reinstalled. I was overjoyed to find that this was the problem, and I had my movies now, however something else came up. Suddenly White boxes were in my menus. The boxes cover the title, the faction selection and many other buttons that are interactive(change when you click / roll over them). I'll post a picture.

I tried reinstalling the game and the same thing happened, I also reinstalled direct x.

Personally, I don't know how Windows Media Player effects RTW, but on my old computer, I installed RTW on it, and it came out exactly like your screenshot, with those great big white patches. I've always assumed that it was just because of a bad graphics card or the age of the computer....

Uninstall and reinstall Rome. When you installed Windows Media Player, it got part of a graphics file in Rome in the process. Reinstall is the only way to get rid of it.

Windows Media Player is used to play the introduction movie. If you have problems with that just use the "-nm" (no movie) switch on the shortcut target.

I doubt that is causing the graphics problem, but you can never tell.

I tried re-installing, but no change. Im not sure how it could be anything other than Windows Media Player because, it didnt start happening until I reinstalled windows media player.

Hmm, Interesting, I tried disabling the movie and it works now. I think it has something to do with the moving background. Because now the background doesnt move, and it works, and it didnt move before and it worked, and it works in RS, where the background doesnt move.

EDIT: Ok, so im going to go into preferences and turn off the background fmv to see what happens. Thanks for the help. I guess if disabling it doesnt work, ill have to stick with nomovies on.

EDIT2: Well that didn't work, now everything is white, I guess I'll stick with no movies. Hopefully this won't be a problem when I get a new computer later this year.
