    Default Oldies But Goodies Anyone?

I'm looking for some classic games. Mainly PC or PS2/PS1 games that are still fun compared to newer games. For example, the original Doom sucks compared to modern first person shooters (due to the fact that you could only look left or right).

Genre doesn't matter, although as far as PC games go I would really like strategy games.

So if anyone knows any great games that fit what I'm looking for, please share... please?

Firstly the original doom does not suck...you do
    I recommend...
    Starcraft-pc strategy
    Vagrant story-ps1 great rpg
Metal gear solid 1/2/3(not that old but...)-ps1/ps2 stealth games
    Thats all for now.

Doom was good for its time but i wouldn't have fun playing it now.

Oldest of ID games worth playing now is probably Quake 1 (more so the Q1 mod for Half-Life as its still active online).

I would totally play it again, if I had it. and it worked on XP.

Nothing would please me more than running through that first level again.. in the room filled with barrels for no reason, blasting each one for target practice. To hear the sweet Doom riff again. Dun dun dun dun dunan, dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn.

The only thing that would make me happier than that is if I found the original Duke Nukem.

"I'll rip off your head and down your neck!" Not too mention alien strippers.

    Aaah...good times.

Quake 2 is awesome. I still play it to this day. The music is especially awesome.

Caesar 3, I used to play that all the time back in the day when it had just come out, too bad I can't find a good trainer and it doesn't like running on XP.

Unreal Tournament 2004, still with plenty of good mods and mutators, it remains one of the best shooters to come out in the past 5 years.

Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2, the graphics for CoD looks kind of dated now from when it was first released, but CoD2 still looks great with a decent processor and fairly good graphics card.

Sid Meier's Pirates!, all the plundering of booty, governor's daughters, and excellent all-round gameplay still make this a keeper.

KotOR series, two of the best role-playing games. Period.

Age of Empires II. The first one will always have a special place in my heart, but the second one just has so much better skirmish modes.

    Argh! Sacrilege!

I play Doom a lot, but I use a source-port which renders it in the sumptuous glory of full polygonal 3D with particle effects and high resolution textures.

Since there are thousands of fan-made WADs out there, you will never run out of Doom levels to play.

    Check it out at Doomsday

Warning: like old model aircraft kits, you will have to assemble several components before you have your shiny new Doom up and running. Doomsday itself is just the game engine, you need to have the original Doom WAD already, and you can add a whole set of resource packs to get 3D-monsters, high-res textures, 3D-weapons, high-res HUD etc.

    Happy fragging...
