What kind of HBO Miniseries would you love to see?

For me it would be named something like Jetsons Meet the Flintstones and be a Band of Brothers type series about a US Army Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha during the invasion of Afghanistan, embedded with the Northern Alliance forces. The stories you hear about this are amazing, they wouldn't even have to embelish and they're full of great events and characters, some of them funny. You'll get to hear about the "Death Rays" watch the cavalry charges all the while watching two completely different groups working together for a common goal, with the Northern Alliance not being fluffy bunny characters. You'll get to see what Special Forces really does opposed to Hollywood.

It would have 14 main characters, the 12 members of the Special forces ODA, the local commander of the Northern Alliance and the Northern Alliance's liason with the team. There can then be a host of minor characters all throughout, representing CIA operatives, Northern Alliance fighters, and the politicians and generals directing the effort.

Actually, HBO is filming a miniseries for Pacific War and should be out in 2009.

I heard about that for what seems like years but have seen nothing.

I would like to see a HBO version of Firefly or a similar SCIFI series.

    1) A series about Alexander the Great would completely make my day.

    2) A retro "Rome" season where we can follow along the 2nd Punic War.

    3) Another retro "Rome" season set during the Macedonian Wars.

    4) A show about World War II flying aces would be awesome. Each episode would feature a different ace such as Saburo Sakai, Hans-Joachim Marseille, Galland, etc.

    5) A "Tales from the Viking Sagas" would be quite entertaining.

"Vietnam War Story" was pretty decent. That was an HBO original series.

Cool, but the link says it was mostly based off stories filled with fictional details. I was thinking something like Band of Brothers, getting facts to the detail.

Also, how about something during WW2 (big surprise ) focused on the Russians? Or even the Germans? That'd be a nice change-up.

Prince, you may be interested to know that there is rumors of a "Rome" movie, the writer of the show began the script just before the writers strike, and of course then had to stop during. I don't know if it would perhaps be like a prequel to the shows and take place during the Gallic War (which would be badass, plus Vorenus would be back) or if it would take place where the show leaves off (which is just after the civil war with Antony, so I don't know where they would go from there really)

But on topic, I would just like to see Rome come back and have them redo the Sopranos ending and I would be content.

Sorry about that - I didn't see your reply until just now

I heard about that rumour myself, but how true is it? I would celebrate a 2nd birthday if they made a "Rome" movie.

Harald seems more likely a candidate, though, although it sure would get expensive.
I would back that. We could glimpse his life in the Varangian Guard in the early episodes, and then the final episodes could show in good detail his invasion of England.

(the middle episodes could be packed with the sort of raunchy drama that HBO and Showtime are known for)

Wow, I can't remember that far back.

I'm not exactly sure how true it is. The actor who played Titus Pullo was the one who said it in an interview answering to the rumors that had been going around but he himself said he didn't know any details or if HBO would be willing or would give up the rights if they didn't want to do it (so that like another company could pick it up and do it). Sounds like its just all in the talks right now, but you never know

The one with "Paint it black" was "Tour of Duty", had three seasons, but not from HBO.

Ahh! Thanks for the correction. Either way it I can't believe I remember so much from being so young as it was released in '87 also.

Well another one I would love will be one called something like "Tales of the Heroic" and each episode will be a dramatisation of the action under which a Medal of Honor, Victoria Cross or similiar award was given.

A Song of Ice And Fire, which apparently is in the works with the HBO and the BBC working together on it like Rome.

I don't see them doing any actual work on it until the book series is finished, which at the rate that Martin is going will be sometime in 2020, or when he's dead like Jordan.

Martin is 60, he's not that old. They're tightening up the script and are going to so a season for a book. I don't see that happening for another 3 years or so anyways.

I would definitely want to see a good series or a good movie about his life.. I'm very interested in the Steven Spielberg project about Lincoln, but a good biopic or miniseries about Robert E. Lee would be amazing! Unfortunately the man and his story is surrounded by controversy in some parts of the U.S., so I doubt they'll decide to make it..

It might also be interesting to see something made about Nathan Bedford Forest.. I'm currently reading a biography about him and I have to admit he's a fascinating character!

Who would you want to see playing Robert E. Lee? I think Martin Sheen did a great job in 'Gettysburg' (although the accent could've used some refining), but I wasn't too keen on Robert Duvall in 'Gods and Generals'..

That seems highly unlikely, seeing how it's an American television channel.. I doubt they'd be interested in something so 'localized' as the Great Northern War..

Personally I would really like to see a good HBO miniseries about the First World War.. There are far too few dramas out there focussing on the Great War..

You do know what he founded, right? I don't think he could ever get a show...

That's why it'd be so interesting to see it. Instead of a world war or other VERY famous wars, it'd be great to bring up such a topic that isn't know very well to much of the world, except just, the north.
August Strindberg: "There's a view, current at the moment even among quite sensible people, that women, that secondary form of humanity (second to men, the lords and shapers of human civilisation) should in some way become equal with men, or could so be; this is leading to a struggle which is both bizarre and doomed. It's bizarre because a secondary form, by the laws of science, is always going to be a secondary form. Imagine two people, A (a man) and B (a woman). They start to run a race from the same point, C. A (the man) has a speed of, let's say, 100; B (the woman) has a speed of 60. Now, the question is 'Can B ever overtake A?" and the answer is 'Never!'. Whatever training, encouragement or self-denial is applied, the proposition is as impossible as that two parallel lines should ever meet."
