ive noticed (painfully with regards to my economy) that HRE has no free upkeep units in castles and such... only in cities...

they cannot build any unit in castles that have free upkeep, and as a result no unit there has free upkeep... im pretty sure you can build free upkeep (ie. militia) units in most other countries castles...

is this on purpose or just an oversight?

im gonna make it so that you can build spear militia in the castles...

you should have castle troops getting free upkeep in castles so militia won't be free upkeep there, only in towns. However troops like DFKs should be (providing you can recruit them there)

well... none of the troops i can recruit in my castles are free upkeep...

Most troops (I don't think Knights have it) that can be trained in a Castle have free upkeep if that castle can train them. Sergeant Spearmen / Peasants / Peasant Archers should all be free upkeep. Likewise, if you put a unit of Spear Militia in a castle, they won't be free upkeep, as the castle can't train them.

naah... i checked sergeant spearmen in the EDU and they didnt have the free upkeep ability... so i gave it to them...

Have you even tried this out? They definetly work for me (though these were Sergeant Spearmen using Templars). It should work without having to add anything.

oh ive done more than tried it out... like i said... i went into the EDU file and checked and they dont have that attribute... but it might be one of the submods im using... cant imagine wich one tho...

Thats really strange then. I just checked my own files out and Sergeant Spearmen have the ability. Maybe one of the submods is to blame (i'm running SS clean). Very strange though.

i thought only peasant units get free upkeep in castles. Examples are peasants, peasant archers, and levy spearmen

I think it must be some script/mod or RR or BYG as I don't have these mods and get free upkeep with HRE for DFKs and Twohanders at least....(see attached screenshot)
