My MTW2 is crippled with lag :v

I'm getting random lags during the game, be it on the campaign map or the battlefield, even with lowest settings. I have AMD Athlon 64 5000+ X2, 1GB RAM and GeForce 7300 GT, I don't think this should be happening, I haven't got this problem before. The lag lasts from about 20 seconds to maybe 1 minute, it makes the game really annoying. I've already tried reinstalling couple of times. Any ideas?

You may have a "fast" processor, but a gig of ram is about minimum and still will beat a swap file on your harddrive to death. The 7300 is low end and graphics set low or medium is all you'll get. That's for XP. If you're running Vista, consider yourself lucky it isn't worse. Medieval2.exe loaded into memory with the operating system will load 280 to over 300 megs of memory by itself.

Well, I get it even when nothing power-consuming is going on, on lowest settings, also I haven't had this before, no idea why it suddenly started acting like that.

Something is using it up. Unistall everything on your harddrive except your operating system and the game especially everything you installed between the two Medieval2 installs. That way there is no interference. Whatever you installed in between is doing it to you.

Open up Task Manager and see what's running in the background.

What baffles me is the fact that the lag is exactly the same, no matter if i play on the highest or the lowest settings, shouldn't it make a large difference?

High and low settings only affect your video card. What else are you running eating up your processor power?

How many services running in your pc? If the services are to many you have problem. Especially a antivirus program. I say that because your pc is OK for the game. I have 1 GB ram too and i dont have any lags.

I close everything in my task manager except the things labeled as SYSTEM or NETWORK/USER SERVICE, my Kaspersky is shut down. It's the same on vanilla/kingdoms/SS

SS? As in Stainless Steel? You just answered your own question. The people running vanilla have said no or little lag so talk to Stainless Steel. As much as it is modified, it could very well be doing it to you.

Your card is very lousya nd thats not really enough ram. Get another gb of ram and a 8800 which are much cheaper now and m2tw will run much better.

Incorrect. I'm running on a 7300GT right now and I can run very well on VeryHigh with Shadows, on High, without... It runs amazing. (Unit size Huge)

I'm upgrading to a ATI 4850 in 3 days though

Yeah, it ran smoothly before, telling me that I need to buy new hardware isn't solving the problem, unless the game requirements are going up by themself, in which case I'm shocked

What have you installed between the time you say the game ran great and the time you started getting random lags?

Not much, the most probable thing that would do anything would be my kaspersky internet security, but turning it down doesn't help, you think I'd need to completely uninstall it? Also I didn't install anything big that would take tons of diskspace
