Default to retrain or not retrain that is the question

I searched these forums for a tutorial or a thread that figured out how to make REtraining not fill a training slot. I couldnt find 1 that answered it and the last 1 was back in oct 07

so i thought id ask again since that was long ago.

I know there is 2 .txt that pretain info and numbers to play with.

campaign and recruitment .txt under the data folder.

both have recrutment slots and retraining slot entries and both are of 1
i tried putting both of these at 0 but it doesnt work. i feel this is hardcoded but you never know???

    1. Zero might be an invalid entry. Have you tried a higher number?
    2. Sure you don't mean xml files?
    3. Are you looking for 'instant' training or is there a different reason?

    1. the entries in the campaign.xml and the recruiment.txt have entries for how many slots a unit take up for recruitment and retraining. I tried to put these both at 0 for retraining to try and get retraining to not fill a slot.

    2. campaign is .xml and recruitment is .txt (sry im a lazy typer)

3 Not instant training, but taking the 1st step to finding a way to get no slots for retraining, so you could retrain as many units per turn as u want. Retraining slots are good for if the unit is being upgraded (armor) as a city couldnt fit say 10 spearmen with lightlight in 6,moths(2 turn per yr set up) but they could do 3, but where i want to go with this is to write a script or something that will allow a unit NOT to fill a slot but is still retrained if there unit is no less then 3/4 full, and other variables like that, but im not gonna waste my time if i cant even get unlimited retraining.

I think in this case most players will merge their units before going for re-training. But that is exactly what you are trying to avoid.
Guess it is down to game mechanics. Something like: no slot, no training.

I'm figuring that this was just too fussy for them to implement logically or realistically. To make sense, you'd need retraining a unit take a fraction of slot, you know what I'm saying? Let's say that you're only replacing outdated armor or refitting them with better weapons: let's say that that would be free in terms of slot. But replacing 15 casualties of a 60-man unit? For realism's sake, this should take 1/4 of a slot.

You know what I mean? These fractions of a slot would probably be difficult to implement, so they simplified it by making any kind of retraining or refitting take up one slot. Then again, I'm talking out of my ass here, and it's possible that they didn't even think about this matter as much as we apparently did, to be posting in this thread.

Regardless, it would've been nice if this was possible to be modded.

maby in the campaign.xml and the recruitment.txt where i was imputing "unit fills 0 slots for retraining" i agree with the statement {no slot no train} so the game will return that value to 1

so i'll try .25 or .5 and see if i can retrain more troops
