How do you get them? I know you start out with one, but when she dies off I never see a princess(other then other factions princesses) again.

The king or heir has to have a daughter who is 14 or 16 something like that.

Don't marry off the girls in your family early. Pay attention to the marriage requests.

unless you're playing the byzantines, they seem to never get a princess, besides the first one, until after turn 50ish

Sometimes, the daughters of other branches of the family don't become princesses, and their only function is the marriage offers... probably to keep every daughter from becoming a princess.

Slowly again; a princess is a daughter of the king. When she comes of age she is represented by an agent figure on the campaign map. Daughters born of other family members are simply there to get married and have children (sorry, but in the game the chauvinists rule).
The princess can conduct diplomacy during which she can get married to the heir or king of another faction, thereby creating an alliance. If she marries soemone else form another faction the chance exists that that family member gets 'adopted' into your family. The higher the 'grade' the better the chance. Else she is simply marriage material with a crown.

Only daughters of faction leaders become princesses that you can move around the map, other princesses are not available in this manner.

I just had a level 10 Scottish Princess. I don't think I ever had one before; but then I very rarely check. I hauled her out and had her conduct diplomacy with the French but soon thought "what a waste". I soon got her married off so she could be producing some good generals. Unfortunately she spent too much time in France picking up airs and didn't produce the 7 10-star generals that I had hoped for.

But can't any character have only four children? So how could you possibly hope for seven Charlemagnes, let alone seven period?
