    Default COH vs. DOW

Well its time for me to get a game
    Which game should I get
Company of Heroes or Warhammer 40k Dawn of War
I got the demo for each and I personally like Dawn of War a lot more.
Can I get some opinions from the twc community???

Get both. They're both quite different and also quite good.

P.S. about WH, i'd recommend getting Dark Crusade or Soulstorm because they have respectable SP campaigns.

CoH, all the little features like dismemberment, destructible buildings and the jaw-dropping particle effects combine give it the lead.

Well I would never buy DoW myself as I never play any fantasy or futuristic games, so its up to you -- if you like historical games more, and WW2 in particular, get CoH. If you like the fantasy sort of games more, get DoW.

I personally like fantasy and I loved the dow demo so much I still have it and I downloaded it before coh demo. So I think Im getting it instead of coh. In that case which version should I get?

But don't they intend to completely remove base building? That's a rather huge difference concerning the "play style" of the game so imho the comparison between DoW and DoW2 is not that good. Besides, we don't know about how many factions will be playable in DoW2 while DoW already has 3 addons with a huge variety of different factions plus one or the other mod that adds even another one (Inquisition: Daemonhunt for example).

@ OP: If you're already rather sure that you want to get DoW instead of CoH I can just say: It's your decision because both games are very good imho. In either case, get the editions that include the addons already - they provide more variety in factions and campaigns and they're worth it without doubt.

It seems like DoW with better graphics than CoH and everything else of CoH, but without the whole base building thing.

I'm glad the game isn't just rehashing the first one like Blizzard are doing with diablo and Starcraft. Relic are putting in more role-playing elements and removing the base-building which I always thought a little tacked-on.

I always hated the base-building aspect of DoW, especially when the max population cap was reached and you couldn't fit enough units on one screen at the same time next to the massive buildings. Less base-building and more customization of units/champions would be the perfect recipe for me .

CoH definitely. I own CoH and I love the game to pieces, one of the best RTS games ever contrived. I've only played the DoW demo and it was fun but I guess I have a bit more love for WW2.

    What's dow about?

"Dawn of War" is an RTS that's based on the Warhammer 40k tabletop game. There aren't any "revolutionary" new concepts in it (though there are "conquer the world"-modes in Dark Crusade and Soulstorm that are a lot better than in, say, Battle for Middleearth 2), the usual RTS with base building, unit upgrading, hero units etc. If you have played CoH already, it's pretty similar to it (CoH having been developed with DoW as the basis) with the W40k franchise as the background and missing some things that are featured in CoH (such as the more accurate cover system and better graphics).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_40k

If you take all current addons into account (and probably there won't be any additional ones with DoW 2 on the move), there are 9 playable factions in it already:

    Space Marines
    Chaos Space Marines
    Orcs
    Eldar
Imperial Guard (since Winter Assault addon)
Necrons (since Dark Crusade addon, unplayable faction in Winter Assault)
    Tau (since Dark Crusade addon)
    Dark Eldar (since Soulstorm addon)
Sisters of Battle/Adepta Sororitas (since Soulstorm addon)
