Suikoden 5 is probably the best RPG on the system, so if you like those games get it. Its more like a SNES style JRPG which is great because that is really the last time that it was good. Its also the most non-linear this type of game gets. There is an insane amount of side quests an optional characters as well. The 3rd one is good too but avoid the 4th.

I never did any grinding in that game, though I haven't played it in a while.

The sad thing is that I can't think of anything better than that other than Suikoden 5. I only ever finished the first xenosaga.

Forgot about the last Final Fantasy, that was good. The combat system made the game for me, reminded me of a system similar to Baldurs Gate.

If you want a random game try Mr. Mosquito. You play as a mosquito trying to get blood to survive the winter..all the while you harass a Japanese family (your source of blood)... If you can find it...its an interesting experience

if by metal gear solid you mean the first then
metal gear solid the essential collection which is the first 3 in the series. plus you can get on gamestop for $30 which is very good for 2 games that you didnt play that are awsome AND rare.
EDIT:Another good game is the Onimusha series
